Just purchased a '66 F250 yesterday. While trying to research the rear-end, I found a discrepancy in the VIN on the warranty plate.
F25YK733093
The plate is on the rear face of the driver door, consistent with the '66 model, yet the Y represents a '67 model 352 motor. From what I've read, the '67 warranty plate is under the hood though.

Welcome to FTE
I don't know where you read that hocus-pocus...it's in-correct.
F25 = F250 2WD.
Y = 352 2V.
K = Kansas City MO Assembly Plant.
733093 = 1966, assembled August 1965.
VIN engine code D was used in 1965 for the 352 2V / Y = 1966/67 352 2V / Y = 1968/76 F100/350 360 2V.
1963/80 F100/350: The Warranty Plate is located on the left door face below the latch...except on Open Drive-Away's.
The Warranty Plate is located on the firewall of Open Drive-Away's, because these trucks (Cowl & Windshield & Chassis & Windshield) do not have a cab of any kind.
On some of these trucks, you may find a "Buck Tag" on the firewall...which was used by assembly line workers only.
The rear axle is a Dana 60. Its AXLE code is listed on the Warranty Plate, and if you post all the codes from the plate, I can decode all of it.
I just removed my Buck plate from the firewall last nite to restore it and fount it was a warranty plate the assembly line workers turned around and used the blank side to stencile the paint code on. Thanks for the new phrase- buck plate 66 250 8ft bed
Hey that's great you live in Colorado and got a locally sourced truck!
Yeah, I thought that was cool also. There have been only 2 previous owners. The couple I bought it from, bought it from another local family that we know back in '87. They are well into their 70's now. He just used it to pull around their camper trailer, haul trash off, and pick up firewood. He only put on about 30,000 miles. The original owner sold it to him when he sold his ranch after his son died and his daughters didn't want to continue the ranching business.
Now, it has come to rest in my garage. I will not make a hot-rod, or low-rider out of it. When it comes time for an overhaul, I might beef up the motor a bit...but that's it. It's got 121,000 miles on it.
One thing that is tormenting me is this...I really like the "Miss Daisy" color scheme and would like to do it to mine, but I also think I should just keep it like it originally came. Obviously, I will re-paint it, but can't decide which direction to go with it.
Thank You Numberdummy for providing all the specs on it. I REALLY wanted to know the name of the paint.
Oh, also, I was heading into town to take the kids to soccer. While I was there I was gonna pick up a bulb for the tail light. The tail light function works, but not the blinker or brake light function. The front blinker works though, so I don't think it's the switch. Does anyone happen to know the model#? I was thinking it was 1140, but can't remember and can't remember where I found it at.
Mine is more of a rolling pile of joy rather than pile of misery.
You say that now...but just wait till something breaks, and you have to go hunting for the parts.
I've owned 331 vehicles since 1956. Excepting the 15 or so I bought new, the others were old rolling piles of misery, some of which I sank a ton of money into.
Thanks for your help on the Disc Brake issue, I just bought ANOTHER running rust bucket can you decifer for me I think it is a 240 cid but trans and rear ratio is unknown.
Is there a engine marking or something that sticks out that's different than the other 6 cids?

The seller did the bill of sale based on he says it's a 1966 since 66 is in the tag number as above, please decifer for me, can you tell the rear ratio with this or do I need the tag off the rear end? Original color? thanks

Uhhh, no. Never heard that one before! That is part of the sequential build number and just happens to have a "66" in it. Could have been an "87"...doesn't mean it came off the line in 1987! P.S. Your truck is a 1965 and specifically, 661479 is March 1965.
