I didnt see a code for the paint, not sure what im looking for.
This is the Certification Label only.
The codes for the COLOR, AXLE, TRANS, MODEL, BODY and etc., are on the Warranty Plate, which is located on the left door face below the latch.
The VIN is also on the Warranty Plate. COMPARE the VIN on the Warranty Plate with the VIN on your registration to see if they match.
While not common, the following isn't un-common either: People replaced damaged left doors with used doors, forget to swap over the correct Warranty Plate.

you don't need the vin what you are looking for is an information plate these are about the same size as a vin plate but will have markings that specify what each code is for if you look on LMC website I believe they still have all the information on the decoding but don't hold me to it. Also your local ford dealership while rare may be able to decode the vin better than the rest for some dealers never throw anything away but like I said this is rare I was only ever to do it once with a locally bought truck.
i looked on my door.the vin on it wasnt the same as my truck.i take it that the door has been changed.
Yes and they didn't swap over the correct plate.
How long have you owned the truck? Better yet why would you buy a truck with 2 different VIN #'s on it?

The VIN is different which also means all of the information on the warranty plate is for another truck so it is useless information.
i have had it about 4 months.i didnt notice the different vin numbers but if i had of i still wouldnt have passed up a good truck because someone replaced a door.im sure there are not too many trucks out there that hasnt had replacement body parts put on them.

I dont think replacement body panels was his issue. not saying you have an issue ranger . But buying a a truck with 2 possibly 3 different VINS. A title issue could come up if you used the wrong VIN.
Ok, I'm just saying if you had to file another title(PITA) and you used the VIN off of the warranty plate and it came back stolen or something you would have alot of explaining to do. Then find out which one is the actual VIN. Which could be done by looking at the one on the frame.
VIN on the door is totally meaningless to the DMV and highway patrol here as it is too easily removed they only go by the one on the frame and the one you can see through the windshield. Just drill the one off the door and throw it away, just to prevent future owners from getting incorrect info off of it. The door VIN being different is extremely common on old fords I have seen it plenty of times, actually asked about it when I had my 68 mustang inspected to go from non highway status back to licensed and KHP inspector told me that no one would ever use the door VIN because it is so easy to change that it is totally meaningless to them. You can actually buy these plates blank for old mustangs and put what ever you want on them, that should tell how much weight the door VIN actually carries.
