Intro 65 f100
Just wanted to introduce myself, I hope its okay to do it here. Still trying to find my way around. Anyways, my uncle just gave me the family truck which we have owned since 65. 1965 f100. Its been sitting in the garage for about 5 years. The 300 motor is solid but the carb was shot so I sent it in for a rebuild since some of the parts that needed replacement weren't in the rebuild kit. Holley 1940. Currently I am just trying to get it cleaned up and running so I can enjoy it while I gather my wish list of parts and decide how I'm going to build this baby up. I am so happy to have this vehicle since I have tons of great memories growing up with it. I'm sure many of you have a similar experience. Okay, first question of what I am sure will be many. This truck has a straight 6 in it but the the hood emblem says V8. My uncle says nothing has changed on the truck except the drivers side door!. Doh! No vehicle code. Does that V8 hood emblem mean this thing came with a V8? I will post some pics as soon as I figure out how

Since 1948, Ford trucks have been registered by their specific VIN (Vehicle Identification Number).
So, not only is there a hidden VIN on the frame rail, but on your registration as well.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Warranty Plate is located on the left door face below the latch. Has the VIN, W.B. (wheelbase), codes for the Color, Model, Body, Trans, Axle.
The actual GVW, Cert net HP & RPM are listed. There's another code for the DSO (District Sales Office, where the selling dealer ordered it from).
Peeps replaced damaged left doors with used doors. 99.9% of the time, they didn't install the original Warranty Plate on the replaced door.

In March 1965, I bought an F100 brand new. When I pulled the engine in 1981 to rebuild it, I found the hidden VIN stamped on the crossmember directly under the harmonic balancer.
How many other trucks had the VIN stamped here, I dunno..could have been a San Jose 'thing' only.
My truck was assembled in San Jose, January 1965. I bought it at Stockton Quincy Ford in Westwood (south of UCLA a coupla miles) where I was employed as a partsman.
Here's what a portion of your VIN could be, based on the 300 engine and the fact you're a CA resident.
F10BRXXXXXX
F10 = F100 2WD / B = 300 1V I-6 / R = San Jose CA Assembly Plant. XXXXXX: The last 6 numbers is the numerical sequence of assembly, the trucks specific serial number, decodes to the month/year the truck was assembled.
He gave you a great truck with great potential to be either a daily driver or a full blown frame off restoration. Twin I-beam suspension for Ford F-series trucks was introduced in 1965. It "offers far better cornering and steering control than any other pickup on the market. It will take curves faster and safer, and it doesn't mush out or lose steering control on tight curves for greater safety on or off the pavement.
The design and construction of this suspension practically eliminate the dip or dive present with other suspensions when making a quick stop. Also, it does not mush out when brakes are applied hard..." -- 1965-66 Illustrated facts and features manual
Hey lvin, I took the carb to a local shop in Fresno. They said they had to send it out and would be a few hundred dollars. They said it would have a warranty so I was okay with that. I drained the gas tank and cleaned all of the lines. Was thinking about putting an inline filter in so I don't muck up the new carb.
Here are some pics. Interior is out because, surprise, rusted drivers side floorboard.

The best rebuider of carbs I know of is: North Hollywood Carburetor & Ignition.
Look at your fuel pump, see if there's a 5" long, round cannister on it. As original, this is where the fuel filter is located.
The cannister threads on/off and inside is this: C4AZ-9365-B .. Corrogated Paper Fuel Fiter (Motorcraft FG-1A).
Since most peeps are unaware the fuel filter is located in the pump, it rarely gets changed.
And, because they are unaware, they install an inline fuel filter. Meanwhile, back at the ranch, the original is getting more clogged up daily.
Bill thanks for the pic post. I forgot I can imbed.
