I have a 351w that ive have for my old project truck and can figure out if i should stroke it. Ive had it for 5 years now it was my first truck, the engine was give to me at that time. It is now bored .60 over, i have hyp. Flat top pistons, a rv cam, heads were port and polished with stock valves and springs all new, i have a double rollor timeing chain and both a new stock oil pump and hv oil pump. The old crank needed to be turned, but at .40 over i figured a new one would be better. I have a 650 holley 4b with manual 2nd. the truck this is going in is a 73 f100 4x4 with a 9 inch lift and 40 inch tires, with a 4 speed trans, and prolly 410 gears. Now with this said my ? Is will a stroker kit be a worth money exspence or should i just get a stock crank and finish it up. Could i use my pistons that i all ready have and just get the crank and rods. Im trying to have a good running truck but it will be more of a project than a every day drive. And i dont have any idea on a intake i havent put much thought it to that yet.
even with that motor you wont be happy trying to turn those size meats. you need 4.88's to 5.13 gears before you go dumping mucho bucks into a stroker build.
you definatly need a new crank though. any crank with more then .010 is garbage in my book especially if you plan to play hard. Cranks are cheap so why skimp ya know.
Right now it has 4.10s and 36 12.50 but i was looking at the big picture i have a set of 60s for it but i think im sticking with a new stock crank. Just to get it running.. I have a new project im wanting to start on.... A 91 s10 drag truck
It has a 6 inch on it now wit a 44 front 9inch rear. I got a 3 inch body lift for it and those 60s, a budy of mine builds crawlers and was going to do the hole 4 link and coil overs and put new gears in the axles...... But i sold them to him
you still need at least 4.88's with that size tire. heck i have 35 bfg at's which are about 20lbs lighter per tire then what you have and wish at times I had 5.13's when wheeling. since you have overdrive you can over gear with little impact
