Engine Size?

I have a 1976 f 250. It has extra leaf springs in back. 4x4. manual. I was wondering what engine it has in it and im not sure where the vin number is on the engine exactly. If anyone can tell me if they have an idea what the engine is or where the vin number is it would be appreciated.

There is no VIN numbers on the engine.
If it's original, the engine should be a 360 2bbl.
The fourth character of your truck's VIN should be "Y".

It should also be on the warranty plate that is mounted on the drivers door.

Your truck left the factory with a 360 2bbl engine, but in the 35+ years since it could have been changed.
Your VIN decodes as:
F26=F250 4WD pickup
Y=360 cu in 2bbl V8 engine
R=San Jose, CA assy plant.
A30462=1976 Sequential serial number

1968/76: The only V8 offered with 4WD (as an option) was the 360 2V. 390's were not factory installed with 4WD.

1968/74: The 240 I-6 was standard equipment, the 300 I-6 & 360 2V were optional. 1975/76: The 300 I-6 was standard equipment, the 360 2V was optional.

On sale day, 360 engines magically become 390's! The 360/390 block is the same, as the bore is the same (4.05").

The stroke is different: 360: 3.50" / 390: 3.78."

1974 was the first year that FoMoCo offered a 4V with the 390 (optional) in F100/350's. The 390 4V VIN engine code is an M.

360/390: Peeps usually swap in a 4V carb and manifold from a 1965/70 390/428 Passenger Car.

1963/80: The Warranty Plate is located on the left door face below the latch, but...

Peeps replaced damaged left doors with used doors. 99% of the time, they did not install the original Warranty Plate on the replaced door.

So...compare the VIN on the registration with the VIN on the Warranty Plate to confirm if they match.
