How about a 1978 428 CJ f250 4x4?
I can tell you that one exists; one of one as far as I know.

Also who’s Marty, and why would anybody care what some report of his says?

Marti reports are Ford production information and will tell you all the color, trim and other information about the vehicle. It will tell you how many were produced with that combo as well.

What was different about a 428cj over regular fe, the usual better heads, intake and camshaft?

I'm a 385 series guy.

And 10.6:1 comp and a 735 cfm Holley.

For torque and HP I's take a 1969-70 460 for my truck.
I like my 410 because its unique.

I think it has been beaten to death that Ford never installed a 428 in a truck. Now, it could have been a dealer installed and sold truck making it original when sold.

I have one too, a '76 F250 Ranger XLT 428 CJ. says so right on the fender.

But, it left the factory with a 360 2V in it. no Ford pickup ever came with a 428 of any kind in it.

Very little. The CJ 428 is mostly like the 428 police engine, 13/32 rod bolts, special hydraulic cam and a cylinder head that's nearly identical to the 427 Low riser, 406 etc. CJ and SCJ engines had a cast iron intake were the police engine had an aluminum intake that's otherwise very similar. SCJ came with cap screw rods and a slightly different crankshaft than a regular 428(no little extra counterweight) but with a hatchet weight on the balancer spacer. Balancer was also larger and they had an oil cooler. They both had special exhaust manifolds that were better than the normal 428 ones but not as streamlined as the 406 or especially the 427 ones.

Very nice examples
Nice clean van Greaser
That Marauder too Rubiranch
You own that Chevelle T bear?
Very nice example if the Highboy with the Western Bullets too 440
I can't speak as to what came stock in those old trucks or which engines could have been ordered in one
But
Ford sure was easy when ordering options, and would build just about anything for you if you had the money
Like an old Fairlane with a 427 side oiler in it

No Ford production vehicle came with a 428 of any kind after 1970. The 1970 Mustang's with 428CJ's and 428SCJ's were the last of the production offered 428's And 1970 last year of the FE's in cars ( Besides Mustang, the 390 in full size Fords ) , By 1970 the other models of Ford cars were getting the 385 series phased in for their big block options. The 360/390 FE's were available in trucks until 1976. No 428 of any variety were available in production trucks. It may be possible for there to be a one off 1967-70 Ford truck with a 428 built for a Ford Exec. by some Ford Skunk works dept. or Shelby, Holman & Moody, etc. But if someone has a 428SCJ in a 1970+ Ford truck, it was swapped in by a dealer/aftermarket builder/tuner or by an individual, period!
