Damaged Glow Plug Harness

I managed to pull the passenger side head glow plugs with a home made special tool similar to the one shown in the Ford manual. It worked great! The same cannot be said for the driver side. When I used the tool, the tops pulled off two of the glow plug connectors, and a third was badly mangled. They just didn't want to let go. I used a christmas-tree fastener remover to pry them out from the inside.

I can probably reuse the existing harness, but the next time I need to remove the glow plugs, I'd have to tear the head apart, and I'm not looking forward to that. I'd like to replace it. Does anyone have the part number for the driver side glow plug harness?

Assuming it's a 2005 and up model year, I believe the part number for the driver side glow plug harness is 5C3Z-12A690-A.

For what it's worth, on any job that requires removal of the glow plug harnesses for whatever reason, be that to access/remove/replace glow plug(s), I always quote a new set of harnesses in with the job. For the relative low cost, it's not even worth the effort (a failed one at that, nine times out of ten) to attempt to save them.

I thought I had them but I don't and I'm going to need both sides. I know 03 uses a buss bar and 04 up uses junk.

Glow plug harnesses - drivers side for vehicle build date is 01/15/04 or later:

MChan68's number is spot on (as usual) - I just ordered one recently from Tousley.

Apprx $41 + shipping.

Got anything for earlier builds......like 10/03 although they're probably the same?

Not sure if there is a different part between the buss bar (03) and the part # Mike gave. The info I had just listed the Jan 04 beginning date for harness - no number or reference to an earlier model harness. I bet you are right and it would be the same, but don't know for sure.

According to what I could get out of my parts guy:

Drivers side glow plug harness 04 and up 5C3Z-12A690-A
Passenger side glow plug 04 and up 4C2Z12A690AB
glow plug harness o-ring W300965

Okay, 2004 model years are a nightmare to look up parts for, due largely to the fact that there were three different variations of that engine during that model year run. But from the information I was able to obtain, the part numbers for the glow plug buss bars (for early build 2004s, equipped with 2003 engines) are 3C3Z-12A690-BA (Passenger Side) and 3C3Z-12A690-AA (Driver Side).

Microcat lists 4C3Z-12A690-AA (Passenger Side) and 4C3Z-12A690-BA (Driver Side) for build dates FROM 08/17/03 to 01/15/04 which I'm calling BULL***** because as I understand it, vehicles with build dates from 09/29/03 are the ones equipped with the LATE-BUILD engines (ICP sensor on passenger side valve cover), which ARE equipped with the glow plug HARNESS.

NOW, Microcat also lists 4C2Z-12A690-AB (Passenger Side) and 4C2Z-12A690-BA (Driver Side) part numbers for vehicles with build dates FROM 01/15/04 only to further add to the confusion.

If I were to guess, the part numbers that npccpartsman are after, are 4C3Z-12A690-AA and 4C3Z-12A690-BA if his vehicle is a 10/03 build (which makes it a LATE-BUILD 2004, of which there are two different variations of).

Hope this helps.

OK--here's what I actually need:

Drivers side glow plug harness 04 and up 4C3Z-12A690-BA
Passenger side glow plug 04 and up 4C3Z-12A690-AA
glow plug harness o-ring W300965

The 4c2z is 2 feet longer on the connection end than the 4c3z and is also listed for an "E" series but it has the same connection end and would work. These numbers are highly dependant on ENGINE serial number so have that handy if you can when you call your parts guy.

So M-Chan MIKE you got it right and I want to give a shout out to MIKE at Tousley ford for taking the time to compare the harnesses for me.

Gee thanks Mark. It's funny how I'm reminded about this almost daily by so many of you, of whom I will likely never shake hands with, yet my own family has turned their back on me years ago.

I've met a lot of selfish and self centered people over the years Mike, so when I meet people so willing to help, I feel it is important to say "thank you" a lot (maybe it is too much, but it is certainly sincere). I feel even more strongly regarding Techs that share their time and acquired knowledge. It seems that almost every Tech eventually gets burnt out due to people arguing with them, etc. - hopefully we keep that to a minimum here!!
