Asking because my son found a 06 he wants to buy.
It has a check engine light light lit, the guy scanned it and says the code says that the glow plug on #1 is not working.
The truck starts and runs fine.
I did the entire RH side this weekend, including the harness, for about $90 in parts (Ford parts at that). The #1 cylinder is on the RH side ... so as I did, you may as well plan on changing the whole side & harness (the old harness WILL break).
Before you spend time and money on a new
glow plug and harness try this.
Remove the Glow Plug Control Module. Clean the contacts
with contact cleaner both plug and sockets. Next apply some
of the dielectric compound and reinstall. Test the system again.
Mine is an 06 and if I clean under the hood for some reason I
always get water in the plug and I get a light. This little process
fixes the problem then you can just clear the code. I hope the next time I
do any under hood cleaning I will not have the error with a good coating
of dielectric compound. Also If you have it unhooked you can wit the pin out
check the plugs with you VOM or DMM (same thing mostly).
