I don't think I would do it if it bypasses the PATs system. I can count on one hand the amount of times that I actually used the remote start. While it is a neat thing to have, I equate it as shift on the fly tuning (without the same negatives mind you). It's a novelty that in my case, wore out quickly. It was a perk that I thought I would use more, but the main reason was for the alarm system.
Like anything those that are really motivated will still find a way, but by bypasses the PATs system that just takes away one layer of protection.
The only two things I can come up with is the negative input to the PKFM bypass isn't getting the negative amperage it needs to communicate or it's not programming to the keys. (followed key program instructions)( step 3 says to immediately start the veh w/ remote start, however it has the delay for the glow plugs to fire, not sure if it's taking too much time until start to finalize programming)(and the damn install directions don't say how many neg amps it takes to effectively communicate)..
Is your theft light on the dash flashing rapidly after you try to start ? If so the PATS is not programmed, Also when you program for the PATS turn off the start delay it may help with any delay in sending a signal to the PATS.
The Pats module itself is wrapped around the ignition itself, you would have to take the collar off the steering column and place a programmed, cut (just the top of the key with the resistor) key inside the the PATS receiver and you should be good to go.
As mentioned, it effectively bypasses the PATS, but that's what you have the alarm for.
installers used to just tape the extra key to the pats module... and that worked. And if the original poster tried that and it started, at least he would know that that his bypass module is not bypassing the pats system. And the reason its "ok" to bypass the pats is that 99% of the time you are installing the remote start along with an alarm system with its own starter kill.... its not like you can't steal a truck with pats, they get stolen all the time anyway.
Thanks everyone for the input, Problem found and FIXED.....
First of all, I wasn't willing to give up the layer of protection the PATS provides. True, there are those that can steal a vehicle by getting around the system, but, it takes them a bit more time to get it done and affords me more opportunity for Target Acquisition!!!
The Fix:
The PKFM module show's to be compatible with the '05 Ex 6.0 system, however the install techs ran into the same problem. They gave me the PK-ALL module, that also covers the Fords. Installed it last night, it worked flawlessly...
With that said; one of the techs said he's ran into the same problem on several Fords when installing the PKFM module (which the manufacturer suggests) only to find it didn't and had to use the PK-ALL, which does work.
