i just had a remote start installed on my 7.3 for about 200 at ciruit city. with an alarm start under 300. it works great, it has a delay so that your glow plug has time and it came with a turbo timer.
It is a device that keeps the engine running so as to allow the engine oil to cool after the engine has been turned off. It's on a timer that shuts the engine down after a certain amount of time, even though the ignition was shut off and key has been removed.
This might just be a dumb question, but I'll ask it anyway, do any of you know if a remote start is available for my 7.3 with a "Six-Speed" manual transmission?
I have the ford gold remote start on my 6-oh Excursion....
works like a champ and more features than I'll ever use...
only reason I didn't go aftermarket where I could have saved some money is I didn't want the dealer pointing fingers at the remote for any issues... not that I've had any, but wanted to limit the "variables" :-0
its hard to find shops to put remote starts in manual transmission vehicles. they basically have to bypass your clutch depresion safety switch. If you know someone you might be ale to get them to do it, or you might be able to install yourself. I have seen them, but they tend to be few and far between.
I read about one system (unfortunately, I don't remember which) that requires you to pre-arm for the next remote start by getting out and locking the vehicle with the with the engine still running, then shut down the engine remotely. Seemed like a good way to ensure that the transmission is in neutral.
If I come across the web-site for that system again, I will post it.
