Replacing fuel filter housing?

Hey Guys,

I have the regulated return fuel system mod. I used braided stainless fuel line with AN fittings. At any rate, I had a couple fittings that were leaking on the passenger side line. Spent all day replacing as the rear fitting is a real pain. Get it all back together and figure I'm golden, well more problems. It appears I may have cracked the housing.

I removed the mpt to AN fitting which I didn't need to, but thought while I had it apart might as well make sure it was sealed well. I used the gas line paste originally, but couldn't find it so I used teflon gas tape. It's a tricky fitting at it’s a 45 degree to 45 degree fitting and has to be positioned just right to clear the other line. It felt a bit loose at the proper position so I gave it one more turn. Apparently that's when I damaged it. I knew better, I was thinking how the housings are fragile that way while I was tightening.

Anyway, turned on the key to check for leaks and sure enough there was a stream shooting out of the housing. It's not cracked in the fitting itself, but just behind, almost like it went in too far. Probably makes no sense right?

There was also another AN fitting leaking, have the fitting, but I didn't have it in me to mess with it. I have a herniated disc and have had bad back problems. I'm hurting after today. I was going to call a tow truck and have it taken to the dealer. I know they will rob me on this one.

My question, how hard is it to replace the housing? I am also thinking about replacing the bad AN fitting/braided hose with the properly rated rubber hose. That particular one has been trouble, I have a 90 degree AN fitting coming off of the regulator and the line is only about 8" or so and the vibration/strain caused the fitting to fail. In fact, several of the AN fittings fail. Need to figure out how to transition from the regulator to a barbed fitting for the rubber fuel line but that's beside the point.

Any info on replacing the bowl and where I might find one and cost? If it's easy enough, I may do it, but it's tempting to let someone else deal with it.

Thanks,
Steve

Nope, looking for the oem fuel filter housing, thanks though. Anyone have one from a delete mod they want to sell?
Thanks,
Steve

That is correct. The bolts go through the HPOP reservoir and are accessed from the front.

Pm me with your shipping info and contact number. I used the supply line fitting off the bowl, but the rest is in tact.

Roland is the best! He's is sending me his no longer used filter housing for the cost of postage! I know I haven't been around too much, no time to mod anymore. 2 kids, 1 3/4 of an acre of landscaping and a very busy job take my time these days. This makes me want to spend some time offering any help I can to other members. I've always thought this forum was the best. I've learned everything I know here and like to pay it back when I can.

I too have a few unused parts around, some new. A new passenger side steel fuel line, a used stock intercooler, and 1 or 2 CPSs that I could part with.

I had an issue awhile back, acted just like the CPS. Got to do my first roadside change. Wasn't too bad except for the kids in the car and the very cold rain! Anyway, Started up ran fine for awhile then the same thing happened again. I've know new CPSs can be bad so at the current lower prices, I tried another. Well, broke down again going over an interstate bridge. Made it to the offramp coasting on the shoulder and had a tow to the dealer. Long story, I'll be short. I told the dealer of my mods and said I thought it was the icp or ipr? At any rate, they determined it was the #8 injector o-rings. They said it was spewing oil. They thought it was loosing pressure causing the stall. It made some sense, I had changed the # 8 long injector with a normal when I did my fuel mod. I had never done an injector so I thought I may have screwed-up or got a bad o-ring on the injector to begin with. So... I tell them to go ahead and replace all the o-rings while they have it opened up. Over a grand later (I know, but I didn't have time to do it myself) I picked it up, again with the kids. Did exactly the same thing, after about 15 miles, just died! My kids heard some choice words and I called the service manager. He truly sounded shocked, they tested and thought they nailed it. Drove it quite a bit to test. They had it towed back to the shop.

Guess what it was, the stinkin' ICP, of course they charged me $325 or whatever dealer price was, could have gotten one for much less online. They did give me free labor, gee, thanks! I thought they might have done that at no cost since I already spent so much! I have never had a positive experience at a dealer, maybe just my luck?

I couldn't complaint to much about the o-ring cost as I believe that the #8 was probably leaking and it's probably good pm to have new o-rings. So $1300 plus later problem solved. I could have done the ICP for $200 or so myself in short order. I guess that story was longer than I thought!

That's why I'm doing the fuel fix myself. Now that I've kindly been given a housing, my cost will be low plus my time of course. I'm sure between the bowl replacement and the AN fuel fittings and new line I needed I would have been in it for $800 min. plus towing going the dealer route!

So need a CPS, fuel line or oem intercooler pm me!

Thanks again Roland!

Steve
