Post Overheating Help

1999 Taurus 3.0 auto

Overheated then shut down.

The engine will turn, but not start.

Could there be timing chain issues?

Fuel to the rail.

I have to check spark now.

To this point I have the coolant sensor DTC cleared.

No other codes.

3.0 Vulcan or 3.0 DOHC, and does coolant poured into the radiator stay there or disappear?
If it's the Vulcan (pushrod), then check for spark and compression. If it overheated until it died then it probably has multiple stuck valves, and may have cracked heads.
If it's the DOHC- Engine shopping time. Cracked heads are quite certain in a major overheat with aluminum heads.

3.0 Vulcan OHV.

I have to check overflow/fill tank tomorrow.

I may remove valve cover to check valve train, after reading your post

when we try to crank it there seems to be binding somewhere.

I hope it is only top end.
