? about re-installing auto locking hubs

I'm getting ready to put everything back together after getting my new ball joints in. When I started this job and took the end caps off of my auto locking hubs this little metal piece fell out of each of them. It looks like a clip or retainer of some type but I have no idea where it goes! Any of you guys know?

Thanks Lazy! At least I know what its called now. If it lines up in there like it shows in that diagram maybe I can figure out exactly where it goes!

Thats a little retainer that, as best as I can figure, holds the snap ring compressed so the hub just slides on. I believe it is used to make things on the assembly line go faster. I always toss them.

Lol, honestly that what I was planning to do with them since I didn't figure they did much anyway!

Shew, by the time all is said and done this truck is gonna be rebuilt from the ground up! LOL
