Block Heater, Yes or No?

A friend and I just bought ourselves '05 6.0 PSD Excursions. We noticed they don't have block heaters. We live in an area where we are seeing sustained temps in the 20 to -15 range for several days at a time, but more temps in the upper 20's and 30's.

Should we invest in block heaters for the 6.0's?

I know my 7.3 PSD is lots easier to start with the use of the block heater when it gets in the 30's.

Thanks

I plugged mine in maybe twice last year, in the zeros. Then again it never sits for more than a day.

I think it depends on how long it will sit for in the cold temps, and the oil type they are using.

I don't think they are too expensive to buy off eBay. \

I think you have the heater. You just need the plug.

Double check under/behind the passenger side tow hook in the front of the truck. Or look just above the starter where the heater is installed in the block. All the engines were shipped from International with the heater, Ford was just too cheap to include the cords in the WARM states.

All 6.0L trucks left the factory with block heaters. Only some of them had cords for the heater.

Btw you can look between the backside of the front pass side shock and inner fender well with a flashlight and you can see the block heater right above the starter towards the back. Should be able to see if there's a cord on it.

It's your truck...but I really, REALLY wouldn't put the China crap pushed on fleabay on my truck. I've said this before...and this is just an opinion (your truck, do as you please) but I'd only put Ford/Navistar parts on my truck. Just like the filters, the Navistar/Ford cord is a superior part compared to the FleaBay junk. With that said the Navistar is much cheaper than Ford (they're the same cord) and made in Canada....not China.

I'm pretty certain those of us on FTE keep that link pretty hot.

Not sure if your saying it should be in the tech forum or what...but it is in there. About 3/4 way down the first post in the tech forum.

My 2006 Ford F350 SD, CC, 4x4 XLT6.0 PSTD, dually. The block heater cable was removed by the previous owner in the desert here in Southern California. Where I live 4,000 feet up from Palm Desert, Palm Springs, etc. you need a block heater because of the winters here in Anza. I ordered one from the Ford Dealer in Palm Springs, CA. Installed it myself. The truck was originally equipped with one from the factory. Just my two cents. I ordered a block heater cable from Advance Auto but it did not fit the connections on the block heater, so much trying to save money. As far the question goes block yes or no depends upon the average winter temperatures where you live. In South Dakota, the military used block heaters for the 29 and 45 passenger diesel powered buses.

Another Ford Mtr Co corner cut, no cord found. Just bought one at the International Dealer for $20.. It looks like the correct one and is 14ga wire... Lots better price than dealer's $100. Will install in the morning. Will report back then....
