2001 F250 SD 7.3 PSD
Was doing a trailer towing road trip too and from Montana. On the way back the cruise control stopped working.
Checked fuse #28. Looked fine.
Attempted to do a self test on the cruise control. Holding the OFF button did nothing. Never went into diagnostic mode.
Button ? A different fuse?
Did the short blow a fuse? I was trying to figure out if the steering wheel switches run off a different fuse. I guess I could pull everyone of them Then I guess I could look at the current track on the Haynes manual schematic
Was hoping someone else had been there before.
none of my fuses blew, going to try plugging the factory harness back in next and checking for continuity on cpp sensor, got my ball joints and axle shaft u joints done today
Well I pulled and checked every fuse. All fine.
The current track diagram in the Haynes didn't match the fuse in the manual.
But the current track was showing the fuse for the brake switch. Not the Cruise Control module.
So next step is to pull the air bag and get at the steering wheel switches. From what I see those are powered thru the horn relay. And the horn works.
But need to check and see if this truck has had the cruise control recall. I don't remember seeing the blue tape on the recalled harness. But its behind the air cleaner hump and you don't look straight at it every time you open the hood.
I can't imagine that it didn't. But you never now.
There is no cruise control module on a 7.3. The cruise function is part of the PCM.
Are you sure you are following the diagnostic procedure right? You said you held down the off button, but if I recall, you're supposed to hold it down while turning the key to RUN. I don't know if you just didn't mention that because it's obvious or that you missed that step.
Yep, I neglected to state that I held down the off while turning the key to run.
I went to EvilBay and they had quite a few 2001 F250 cruise control modules. I assume those are all gas?
I guess I should go ahead pickup up a complete set of Factory Service manuals. Don't ilke the DVD one I just bought for our Fusion. Too hard to find what I need.
Can't throw Haynes under the bus. The current track did say PCM not cruise control module.
Just unhooked the battery grounds and I'm going to take out the steering wheel airbag. Wish me luck. LOL.
That wasn't too tough. And I'm still alive.
Just like its says. Undo the two bolts and take it out.
Black connector was conventional Ford. The red one was kind of goofy. And I didn't even break it. LOL.
I don't have enough of a schematic to even test it.
Any ideas or info?
Tough time telling which wire is which. The same group of wires come out of both sides. Plus there's a pigtail that goes to the air bag on the same harness.
I've got a new FoMoCo switch coming from RockAuto.
Well that didn't work.
Installed the new switches.Tried the cruise control self test. No go.
Drove home from my shop. Stopped a couple times. After the third stop it worked. I was all smiles. Then I went to go out for dinner. No Go Again.
I"d say I have a short. Not good ..........................
Horn works. ABS light is out now that air bag is back in hooked up.
How do I jumper the brake switch to circumvent the switch?
The wiring around the master cylinder looks goofy.
