diff vents

i have a few ?s on diff vents on a 78 f150 with d44 and ford 9".

1-are they supposed to have hoses on them running to the highest point?

2-how do i service or unplug them?

3-could a plugged vent cause my rear axle seal leak?

4-do i hook up the hoses to something solid or let them have some play?

thanks

1-yes, the hose just runs up to the frame somewhere, hook it with a ziptie

2-take them off, run wire or a small drill bit through them (you should see right through them) and clean them out

3-yes, the pressure has to go somewhere

4-the open end just hangs loose, once you have it secured up high enough not to get water in it

4 - Concur with zip-tying it. It should have enough slack to account for the suspension at full extension. Some desert racers run the lines to a filtered breather.
