The steering is so sloppy that I dont drive more than a mile or two.I noticed that the body was shifting a little from the frame and saw the trackbar bushings were shot and replaced them. It has some worn out 35" 14"wide tires on it. I want to get the steering fixed before I play in the mud and get new tires. I also think it has a small lift on it but not sure. Any help is appreciated
if all your other front end parts are good its not uncommon for the p/s box to be shot the reason you didn't get any replies is everyone wants you to search like it says in the please read tips and tricks section, which ironically no one does.
TAKE A BUDDY AND LOOK UNDER YOUR TRUCK. WHILE HE SHAKES THE WHEEL R-TO L START AT THE RAG JOINT! GO TO THE BOX .. PITMAN ARM, DRAG LINK, TIE RODS. TRACK ARM EVERY THING!! 150s HAVE A BAD STEERING SET UP. I WENT AS FAR AS PUTTING IN A U-JOINT WHERE THE RAG WAS. THE BOX WAS GOOD SO WHATS THE PROBLEM? REPLACED EVERY PART TO THE BALL JOINTS AND STILL HAD THE F-150 SHIMMY....... ITS JUST A POOR SET UP........ BUT I DID FIX THE PROBLEM NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS AFTER THAT....??? I BOUGHT A 250.
^ what he said, also, not a bad idea to go ahead and get an entire poly set for the front end, theres nothing inherently wrong with the coil spring setup, after all, jeep went to it and everyone Ive talked to says it is superior to the leaf springs but these trucks are 30+ yrs old now and the bushings are tired
Ok i shook the wheel and the rag has a little play in it but doesnt seem enough to make these problems. Also what is a POLY setup? The front suspension is spring and strut not leafs. Is this what you are reffering to?
Poly= Polyurethane.
You can get the body and suspension bushings in either original rubber (soft) or polyurethane (hard).
Personal prefference for me is rubber. The poly makes the ride harsher and you get more vibration and road noise from the poly.
