Trying to get the backup lights to work. 1977 F100, I6 motor with C4 transmission. I've search the forums and I have the exploded diagrams for the truck (all 900 pages).
I cannot find any clear picture of where the dad-gum switch is. The ford diagrams only show it with the manual transmission.
I know where the PNRD switch is on the column, but apparently there is another switch that turns on the backup lights. I've even found the wiring connector for it and the PO has a wire shorting out the two terminals.
Somebody please tell me where this stupid thing is hiding!
Believe it or not that wire shorting the two together is actually stock, that is where the back-up light switch would be for a three on the tree, if the wire is gone the lights will not work, and as far as I know the neutral safety switch is also the back-up light switch
The back up light switch is part of the neutral start switch. 73-77 it's mounted on top of the steering column under the dash just ahead of the firewall. 78-79 it's mounted on the transmission like the picture gfw1985 posted above.
I need the link in the bottom of the pic that gfw1985 posted. For a 79 f-100, 302, c-4. any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
Just a part number would be a major help. Tks A

By "link" do you mean the shift arm itself or the small stud that connects the shift arm to the linkage?
Here are both parts.
Lever assy, manual control

I've located several of the studs, still looking for the control arm
