I have only driven it around town.
Not as loud as I expected. Just different.
My stock set up was an ats housing,1.0 exhaust housing,Banks big head. That actually is a great set up. And will be for sale after I rebuild it.
The boost is about half of what I had with my stock turbo.
(I could peg30 psi if I tried with my old one.)
Before I installed the 38R, I did tighten the actuator a few turns.
I understand that it is pushing more air,so more boost is not necessarily good.(??)

I tightened mine down until the wastegate was disabled. Later, I replaced the 1.0 turbine housing with the non WG 1.15 and couldn't be happier.
Think in terms of volume/displacement, the bigger turbo doesn't need to spool as high to reach a given air volume versus a smaller turbo....and typically bigger turbo's need more exhaust gasses to get them spooled up high.
I should have waited a few days before my first post! I just hadn't put my foot into it yet!
I'm happy with the way the turbo and injectors woke the truck up. And the turbo definitely has an awesome-jet like sound. It just takes longer, higher rpms for it to light up.
When I switched to the hot tune and hammered it, I was amazed at how it wanted to go. My boost was buried at 35 and I was definitely moving when I let off. Probably the only time I will open it up like that.
In the tow modes, it did better than stock. Not a huge difference, but better.
With some changes in the tuning it will be better.
The shifting and torque converter lock up points need to be changed.
how was the spool up time when towing? what tune do you tow in?
It spools up quick when you put your foot in it. The six position chip I have has a 40 and 65 tow position. I need to get the torque converter to stay locked up to a higher rpm.
I manually downshift allot to keep the rpms up.
I pull a trailer up a steep winding road a couple times a month. The steep part is about a 1.5 hour drive going from 15mph up to about 45. 50'elevation to 6000'. Not too bad.
The sweet spot seems to be at around 2500 rpms.
