Fuel Pump Going OUT?????

So night before last, while about 2 hours out from calling on a client in SD, I started hearing a high pitched whine in my 06. Got into town for the night, and was able to get the pickup into a Ford dealer yesterday evening. The Tech there confirmed my thoughts that the noise was coming from the frame mounted fuel pump. However, the dealership didn't have one in stock. As such, I decided to risk it and headed home. 850 miles later, I made it. No problems. The noise seemed to come and go through out the trip. What do you guys think? Is the pump going out? Should I replace it now? Do in install an OEM pump or replace it with a FASS setup? If FASS, which one do I get? Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

PS. The Ford dealership in Watertown SD, is outstanding. Open until 6, friendly people, willing to help any way they can. If they were closer I would buy from them.

Try changing the fuel filter. The pump will whine like that when the fuel filter is really dirty. You keep running it like that and you will have bigger problems.

Mine has done same thing when i got crapy fuel and a lot of something in my filters. After changing them a few times the whine went away.

Two things I would HIGHLY recommend:

1) Get a fuel pressure gauge. It's an investment but the information is PRICELESS.
2) Get an Airdog NOT a FASS, simply because of the customer service if for no other reason. I won't get into the rest of the particulars like better reliability and ease of installation.

I did have both fuel filters changed before leaving the dealership. The whine seems to come and go a little bit so maybe another filter change in a week or so will do the trick. Does anyone know if a Scanguage 2 will monitor fuel pressure?

ScanGauge won't show it, no fuel pressure sensor on the truck.
