Please use the Motorcraft brand. There are many posts on these boards where someone has used an aftermarket brand coil only to have it fail quickly. The OE Motorcraft's last > 80k plus miles (at least this is my experience) so why would you want to install a cheaper brand? Look on eBay for some deals.
I had two go at around 80k and after the second one I decided to change them all out. Did the plugs then too as your 1/2 way there with the R&R of the COP's
Well money is the issue now, I'll just buy one Motorcraft and see if I can locate the culprit!
There's a couple used ones on ebay right now. If I had all the money everyone has needlessly spent on cops in the last ten years in the USA I would be rich. Actually he had 8 of them today and they were cheap.
Is the truck only doing it when u first start it or when its idleing??? Does it do it while u are driving or accelerating at all? I would lean more towards clogged EGR or u may take it to a deisel shop in your area and have them hook it up to their computers...check all your injectors to see how they are looking, may have one dead or overfueling..never know. Coil is obviously the cheapest route but if its misfiring while u are driving my bet would be the ladder.
Im having a VERY similar issue as I just posted in another tread in detail. Mine started right after gassing up at a new station i'd never used before. Since mine was doing the little ABS/Speedo dance, i ended up replacing the rear abs sensor, but that didnt fix it.
My sputtering happens during accelleration only. During steady driving its smooth, and when i accellerate a little, it sputters. if i give it some extra gas, it smooths out.
So things i saw here that i didnt see in the other thread:
1) Low battery output (my scanguage always reads between 13.5 and 14.5, running or not)
I'll be following this one, because mine is doing the same thing. It's annoying me to no end. Mine also sputters when trying to maintain highway speeds.
