Thats sounds more like wet or cracked boots.

I just got the cop virus guys. Mine has the same symptoms as the op and it's getting worst. When I changed the spark plugs I did notice that the tip of the springs in the boots were a bit corroded so I cleaned them up with a wire brush but that didn't seem to help. I'll be grabbing a few cop's and trying out the op's trick with 2 and see how it goes. Mine started a few days ago after going to a cheaper gas since the prices are at $3.75 a gallon near me.

My x is STILL doing this, all these months later.

It finally threw a code P0304, telling me cylinder 4 has misfired. I took it in, and my shop changed 4 AND 8 (since it apparently threw a P0308 while they were looking at it).

Now it sputters all the time, even when idling. And I just got a P0304 again. All plugs have been changed, and cops 4 and have been changed.

I dont know where to go next.

I'm still having the same problems as well. I've replaced the cops and plugs. Still dealing with the same issues. Irritating the hell out of me now.

Might want to try replacing the rubber boot with the spring inside. May not be your COP.

Electrical connector to the COP good at #4? Clip didn't break or anything?

Im getting oil from the valve cover into one of the rear plugs. I found this out when I replaced all the SPs. My COP had alot of green stuff on it so I cleaned them all out and put 2 boots in. After all I started it and it ran sweet untill I picked up my wife from work and it acted like it wanted to cut off, the rpm needle was going up and down then it just cut off. Then the check engine light came on. A buddy of mine want's to look at it but im sure i'll need to replace all the COPs along with valve seal.

Check your IAC valve, In some cases you can clean it out rather than replace. if you got bad gas you may also need to change out the fuel filter.

Well, here my update. I went to my boy's house since he offered to check it out for me and on the way there It actually got real smooth and the sputtering stopped. I made it to his house and I let him take it for a spin and he said it was running great, That he wouldn't do anything different. I know it will eventually come back since my gaskets are leaking oil so im gonna go ahead and still get the 8 COPs and gaskets for the valve cover. I'll sleep better.

Here are a few pics of my afternoon dealing with this issue. I used carb cleaner to clean the 6 springs and COP connection since it was full of green stuff. I also sprayed the springs and while there I sprayed some in the injectors. Check out the spark plugs and how thin the tips were.

Result. Very smooth ride and the acceleration improved dramatically. I think it runs way better than when I drove it home.

This is how they looked after I cleaned them up with carb cleaner

The hardest part about this little job was getting into position to actually start. I used my big red to get to it.

Unhappy Please help!!!

My X is still sputtering...
I've put in the folliwing:

New sparkplugs
New cop's
new valve cover seals (it was leaking oil)
The last spark plug was full of oil so i thought that was it..Not

New oil
New oil filter
New belt
New upper engine manifold (It was cracked and leaking water)
I figured water in the sparkplugs was the cause...not

I started it right after installing the new manifold and still sputtering.

Will be putting in new gas filter 2mo after I buy the tool...Could it be the gas filter?

What else can it be? It has a sputtering sound coming from the tail pipe while it's parked too.. When driving it feels like a stripper shacking for the night. lol.. No but really shakes..Has low power and sometimes it feels like it has troupble getting out of 1st. Im all out of options at this point.. Im thinking bad gas or gas related.. Any ideas?

Please help!!!
