Ok...I have a CAI with a Func. Hood...anyways, who makes a performance MAF for the 04'? If I get a gryphon or a Powerhungry conversion of my Edge Evo will that solve it or should I just do both....I've been saving for a while so I got some marbles saved for it...mostly because I posted this like 3 years ago and nobody responded
To start with, the oem MAF will flow more than that Ford in its present form could ever, ever suck in! As an example, a friend of mine just brought over his 2007 chev with the 6.something v8. I checked with the dealer and the MAF on it will flow up to 900 cfm with a very slight and easy modification. Despite me going through this step by step with my friend, he "fell" for the bait that other experts had given him.....he spent $400 on a CAI (custom), then $600 on a custom programmed "tuner", then another $600 (IIRR) on a very respectible name brand MAF intake system. Prior to this we ran the truck 0-60 mph, now with all the custom equipment, we ran it again- barely knocking a fraction of a second off. Not believing the stopwatch, he took his truck to a dyno shop just to get a reading on all the new HP/TQ....guess what, the hound dogged faced guy returned to my house, producing a whole 6% more HP/TQ- with the dyno guy advising him it in reality is closer to 3% with atmostpheric correction.
I called the MAF mfg in SoCal with him sitting there, they were very polite & direct and verified that the oem unit could easily flow 800 cfm and with a stock engine or unless you really did some real racing type enhancements, there was really no reason to use their product (which is not marketed by them in this way).
Thanks for the cash Save...So what you are saying is all I need is a custom tune? I read the earlier posts saying that trucks were running 'dangerously' lean, so I would like to correct that if I could...
He'd be happy to answer your questions, sell you a SCT X3, build you three custom tunes, charge you around $400, and ship the loaded device out the next day on a 3-5 day shipping schedule.
