Hi guys I am looking for a truck...open to any 4x4 73-96. So far I have looked at everything from a rusted out 78 F250 to an 89 F350 7.3 IDI to a 94 F150 short bed.
I have just come across a 77 F250...advertised as a Highboy. 400m with a C6. Decent shape but not perfect, price is right in my range. The only issue I have is that I told myself I would make sure the truck is the configuration that I wanted, which meant manual transmission.
I am sure this question has been answered already but I am really tired and I doubt I could pull off searching without passing out on the keyboard...but what is involved in converting this truck to a manual trans...which transmissions work and what do I need to do it?
According to the ad, its currently a C6 with a divorced NP205, dana 44 front and full floating 60 rear with 4.10 gears.
Any help would be awesome, I am going to see the truck in person later this week.
Thanks for the input...now I just need to find a truck to take all the parts from as that is probably the simplest way to do it. I wonder which manual transmissions work best with the 400...
With a divorced t-case, just find a 2wd manual tranny and go from there. Josh
The 4WD manual transmissions have a tailstock that has a machined boss for the 4WD shift lever to mount to that's part of the casting. I'm not sure, but I'd doubt that the 2WD transmissions have that same casting.
If you buy it and switch over don't junk that C6. I take everyone I come across and strip the 4x4 parts off of them and sell them on ebay. The tail shaft, yoke, extension housing, 4x4 pan and shifter have always got me $75 and up.

Good catch... A lot of guys end up having to fab some brackets.
