wheel cyl replacement

Just replaced pads and drums on one side of rear on a '76 f100, got to other side and looks like a leaking wheel cyl. Question: do these need to be replaced in pairs; in other words do I have to tear down the side I already replaced to install a new wheel cyl even though its not leaking ;(?

No they don`t. A lot of guys would replace both on the assumption that if one is leaking the other may not be far behind but it is not necessary.

They are also replaced/rebuilt in pairs due to wanting even hydraulic effort on each wheel. In theory the new one will work more easily than the old one due to corrosion and weaker seals. Do you know what steer brakes are on a tractor? It is the ability to steer a vehicle with the brakes by applying to one wheel more than the other. If your wheels are not applying pressure evenly you can end up with a steer brake situation.

I would replace both cylinders for both of the above reasons. You don't have to tear everything down to replace it. Just remove the springs from the pin and move them out of the way far enough.
