I'm having a problem getting my e brake to hold. I replaced the cables and when I adjust it I bottom out the equalizer before it will hold. All the cables were bought for that year and wheel base so I.m kinda stumped.
The truck is a 1993 f350 super cab. It seems simple but everything i have gotten based on the wheel base and model comes up to long and the equalizer bottoms out before the Emergency brake is adjusted.
the brakes are adjusted, just put new brakes, wheel cylinder and hardware on both sides. My "real" truck does have the key on the left, 2006 Peterbilt 387
For the F350 there at about 5 different wheelbases, maybe more for the F250 so it is vital that any cables are for the correct one.
From `92 on they went to an auto adjust system for F150 and F250 and I would think but don`t know for certain, the F350. This meant that there was no longer a threaded adjuster at the equalizer. If, as you say, you have a threaded adjuster I would think that you have the wrong intermediat cable.
Thanks for the reply but I have been through the manual, ( Helm Manuals) which are the same ones the Ford dealers use, and there is an equalizer. I wish it would have been self adjusting but didn't get that lucky. I measured the wheel base so I could get the right one but after getting 2 at 2 different places I still end up with a cable system that is about 4 inches to long. I'm almost wondering if out sourcing manufacturing of some parts is a mistake, my intermediate cable was made in Columbia and the front cable as well as the rear cables were made in china.
Fair enough. I wasn`t sure if the F350 got the auto adjuster. Count yourself lucky that you have the older threaded adjuster.
All I can suggest is that you go to rockauto.com and enter your truck details and look at the array of different wheelbase lengths along with the different brake cables for each one. Check both the intermediate and wheel cables. Make sure you measure your wheelbase accurately. It would seem to me that you you have the wrong length/s.
