FORD letter clips

For those that put the F O R D letters on your 48-50 header panel, did you use anything different than the original clips? I have some of the original clips and purchased some aftermarket round ones that looked like they will fit. They are a real pain trying to get them pushed on. Was thinking about using some adhesive since I don't plan on EVER repainting it again. Inputs?

I tried some hardware store clips, they just didn't cinch down tight. I was worried about the letters vibrating and scratching the paint, causing rust, so I put a bit of RTV around each letter's post before installing with the correct clips. RTV would probably be good enough to hold them on.

Here's what the original "clips" look like.

You should be able to make some out of some thin metal by bending it to shape and drilling holes for the screws. The ends of the clip are rounded.

If I can find the letters, I can measure the clip.

That's interesting. Mine don't have any threads inside. Maybe in 50 they decided to go with the cheap rectangular speed nuts that were in a baggie along with the letters when I bought the truck.

Speed-clip type on my '52, too. My god, how long would it take to do four sets of those screw-on's on the assemblyline??

51PanelMan, I had been looking for a "R"... I have found another set to put on my truck... But let me know if that is an extra "R" to complete the set I have...
