mark sounds simple enough. I have never pulled an engine with an auto trans. Sticks yes a few. I'm going to pick your brain if you don't mind? Guess I just remove the bell housing bolts and the inspection plate. That's all I know. Does the converter slide off a transmission shaft while still attached to the flywheel? And I guess I should be extra careful while sliding the engine forward up and out with the converter still attached. Any tips would really be appreciated. Thanks

Yep, just the bellhousing bolts, the starter?, and the inspection plate. Make sure nothing else is connecting the transmission to the engine as well, and that nothing is keeping the engine in either. After that, just pull the motor forward.
Funny story, I actually just got finished pulling the C6 apart from my 300 I6 maybe half an hour ago.
Watch out for the trans fluid though, it may come out of the TC if you tilt the engine enough.

my 390 was locked up, removed trans, took some time to remove converter bolts from flex plate, then from there started disassembly. ended up drilling the top of one of the pistons to help break it up, then big sledge hammer to beat the tops of the pistons, finally was able to rotate over, one piston had to be pushed out thru the bottom after crank was removed

Well off to harbor freight this weekend. Cherry picker, load leveler and engine stand. Then local Ford dealer for a motorcraft rebuild 400. Staying smog stock! BTW I'm in Topanga Ca. Anyone needs to borrow said items (of course when I'm done) let me know
Thanks for the tips.

Anyway, take a look at the printout from your last smog check. Note what your engine blew, vs. what is allowed. Could you blow more oxides of nitrogen? The compression and cam timing that saddles the 400 and 351m was intended to reduce those emissions. That said, if the standards are seemingly pretty high compared to what the stock motor produced, you may be able to gain some compression on the rebuild, and still pass smog. Just a thought.
