Hey guys long time no talk. Well its getting warmer now and have started back up on my 78 pickups. I just want to know what i am doing wrong installing this 351M in my F-250. I just can't seem to get the dowels in from the engine to line up the same time as the studs from the torque convertor. Do I have something not jiving. I put the flywheel on the only way it would bolt on with the counter weight towards the bottom. The torque convertor has the four studs with one having a hex head next too it this is at the bottom. I have my transmission jacked up as high as it will go and have a engine load leveler on my cherry picker. I have fought this d$%# thing for two nights now. I am bout ready to pay somebody to do it or drop the tranny out. And to top this out this engine was only temporary till I get my 400 done, may wait now. Thanks any help would be great.
is this the same engine that was attached to trans in hte truck or a different engine(from a stick trans) that might have a pilot bearing in the back of the crank?
and the converter drain plug has a hole in the flexplate for it to fit into?
you're sure the converter is all the way into the trans?
when you get the trans mated to the engine, you need to make sure that the converter is not pinched. the converter needs to be free to move slightly within the stud holes of the flexplate, otherwise the converter is not seated in the trans and is binding the pump.
You know what it is from a 4 speed truck, I just bolted the the flywheel from the 400 right on to the back of it which it came from a C6. This is a 351 and me being scatter brained sometimes didn't look for a pilot bearing. I will look tonight or tomorrow night and let you know what I get.
