Worked on a friends 7.3 '02 over the weekend and it cut off/would not start. It had a bunch of stored codes, too numerous to type. One was for CPS and tach did not bump. We unhooked batteries for aprox90 sec. and reconnected, same codes. Should we have had them unhooked longer? Will the A/E clear codes? I'm not sure here. I'm thinking bad CPS but stored codes are a puzzle.
Very well might be a CPS, one thing though I don't think the '02 up will move the tach until started, might be wrong. I do not have AE I use a snapon solas, but I am certain that AE can clear the codes.
Not sure how long it takes to clear codes or if it works but has he went in for the recall on the CPS? If not and that's it that's a free fix and a easy one to boot.
You need to leave the batteries unhooked much longer. I think atleast 15 minutes or so. Just unhook before you go to bed and it should be fine in the morning. At least till the new codes come back.
Thanks guys for the input. He just recently purchased this one, so doesn't know about recall. no more than me telling him about it. I will try to spend time with the A/E. It seems to work better the more I use it, kinda like it's breaking in or something. :-)
It will clear cores and you just need to short pos to neg when you dis connect batteries to discharge all the caps on the board you can also turn on headlights to load system but I short cables to completely discharge all of them!
