I replaced my cps last week, and its still stalling after start up, as well as the motor cutting out while driving and stalling. I disconnected both batteries during the swap, then reconnected them after the new cps was in. Cel light is still coming on. Do I need to clear the code(s)? Please help! btw truck is a '95 7.3
If you're setting codes and then replace a part because of those codes, you should clear the codes. If the problem continues and you've set another code, you'll be able to tell if it's a new code. If you don't clear the codes, you won't be able to tell if the "old" codes are "new" again in addition to the code you didn't have before. Whew! That's a mouthfull.
Inhale...exhale...start again.
Some codes clear themselves after a certain number of cycles without a problem. Others don't clear themselves at all. The only way to be sure a new is set, is to clear the old codes before the new ones show up.
I'll assume the oil level is correct and the oil is fairly fresh. Make sure you have a good, clean connection at the CPS.
It's kind of rare, but not unheard for the CPS to need a shim. Are you seeing any scoring on the end of the CPS? If you are, it's too close and needs to be shimmed out a little.
It's also rare, but also not unheard of that you got a bad CPS. There isn't any way to test them, but if it's still under warranty, take it back and get another one.
