Running lights and instrument cluster lights out.

Running lights and instrument cluster lights out.
Just the other day I fired the truck up and turned the lights on and my headlights came on but my gauges didn't light up. I figured I probably had a blown fuse or something so I didn't bother checking it immediately and decided to drive home anyways and on the way home I got a phone call saying that my running lights weren't working either. Front or rear. Still have brake lights and turn signals but no running lights. I've checked all the fuses and none of them are blown and I'm going nuts trying to figure out what is wrong before I get a ticket. I'm tired of lightly holding the brake as I pass by cops at night. Anyone have any ideas what could be causing this issue?

Lights on and no gauge lights normally means the dimmer is rolled all the way down. i don't have daytime running lights on mine but they do turn themselves on when its dark. The darkness sensor (not sure what the proper name is) could be bad. Did try turning on the headlights? And have you done a continuity test on the switch?

The truck is an 04 F250 Super Duty. There isn't a darkness sensor on it. And the dimmer switch isn't rolled down. The switch has three settings. All the way to the left is off. Second setting is running lights and dash lights come on. And third setting is same as the second along with the headlights. Headlights work just fine but just the running lights and dash lights aren't working.

Similar issue when I got my '04 and found that the main elec bus connector for multi function switch on steering column was almost completely disconnected. From bouncy roads I guess. Reconnected it and everything worked like new. I pan-tied it so it won't come apart again. Easy. Check that first. Tilt steering will pull it apart too. There is a thread for the steering column take apart.

You should be able to locate that diagram I would think here ....go to www.bbbind.com and go to and mouse over to technical information, from there select the drop down menu and select TSB & wiring diagram database ( you will have to register for a free account) then it is matter of putting in the info for your truck make, year, model, style, engine and then you should be able to find what your looking for.

Go to this thread, follow the search links in my post. The 04 diagrams, which are the same as for the 05, are in one of those threads. I saw it yesterday while making that search.

There's your trail of breadcrumbs, you'll have to follow it.

my truck didn’t have a radio in it when I got it but the wiring was still in it when I got my new radio I used the harness it came with but noticed the harness that was left in my truck had a orange wire while the new radio did not so I taped the orange wire off coming from the factory plug could this be why my lights and cluster are not coming on?
