XD engines used sodium filled exhuast valves and those goofy low compression pistons and were good for about 8.5:1 about the same as a lawn mower.
I began passing out FT sodium exhaust valves to mechanics in the 1960's, so they predate the 'so called' XD engine.
C4TZ-6505-N .. Sodium Exhaust Valve / 1964/78 all FT engines.
Those goofy low compression pistons you're speaking of are listed for '74/78 359's (D4TZ-6108-L), which was a detuned for smog 361 & for the '75/78 389's (D5TZ-6108-A) a detuned 391.
Pistons for the 330 H/D are the same 1968/78 (C8TZ-6108-G). There's no listing for a 330 'XD.'
I'm not sure how she could have ended up in Ky but I think you have bought my old pole truck....does it have Marie painted in script below the f 600 and is it a insulated Simon fiberglass boom?

Thanks for all of the help guys. I am going to be using my truck most of Sept. but my usage will slow down in Oct. I plan on pulling the engine around the first of Oct. I will let you kn wo what I find. As far as the history of the truck, here is what I know. The truck was purchased in 1978 by GTE phone company and used until 1981, where it was purchased at auction by a local electrician. He used it to install security lighting and sign lighting as well as maintain lighting for local shopping centers. I purchased the truck from he six years ago from him. The truck set most of the time he owned it. The brakes were in need of repair, so I installed new brake cylinders and a new brake line. The truck is always a little hard to start on the first start up of the day, but I thought that was just typical. It starts great after it has been warmered up. It developed an oil leak around the rear main seal. I didn't have time to fix it, so I took the truck to a local "mechanic" (ASE certified). I trusted this guy, but my trust was misplaced. When I got the truck back the leaks are twice as bad and coming from more than the rear main. It leaks around the distributor, heads, main seals and places in between. I will let you guys know what I find when I pull the engine.
Cool very similar story with Marie I sold her 5 years ago to a guy in Globe with 28k on her she was a ex Mountain Bell high line truck I used her for parking lot lights and signs in shopping centers that truck didn't have brakes when it had brakes!....

The brakes even when new on these trucks were horrible! Who thought it was a good idea to use such mismatched brake hardware? See the size of the booster and master cylinder? Most of the time it feels like you have no front brakes and you are praying that the rear will stop you in time! The only decent brake in these trucks is the drive shaft drum brake! You tend to get to know it very well during a panic stop!
