im getting ready for my first trip in my truck this weekend (probably about a 3 hour drive to the mountains for a little R&R) and i wanted to try and get a CB in my truck before then so i went and got me a cobra 19 ultra III from walmart and the roof mounted antenna they sell. now i just need help hooking it up lol. the antennas roof mounted so where would be the best place for me to run the cable into the cab at? through the back slider glass?
also what do you all recommend hooking the black and red wire to inside the cab? im going to put it by my right leg on the bottom part of the dash.
id really like to run it through the third brake light. anyone have some tips on how to do this? am i going to have to drill a hole through the roof once i take the brake light out? or will i be able to feed it out underneath the headliner and trim?
NO,NO,NO to the 3rd light thought.
You will be asking for a leak to start.
There should be a rubber plug in the rear wall of the cab that you can get the antenna cable through.
you might have to cut a small notch out but as for the CHML theres already a hole there, you just may need to notch it enough for the size wire you have and put silicone or something like that to keep water out...not sure how my truck was done, but it looks to have had a CB antenna and it has sirius radio installed....well did before it was stolen but thats just asking for possible troubles, so i would avoid this option if possible!!
@shorebird: you ninja'd me dang....least we have similar thoughts
I ran mine threw the third brake light and put some Seal-All around it and never had a leak. I didn't drill anything at all! But I do know what he means about the plug. If you flip the seat forward, it should be at the bottom floor right up against the wall. The third brake light deal looks cleaner to me IMO for a roof top one.

pic of this plug? and where is it located, I tried to find one on my truck and didn't see one...
Try this thread for some ideas; https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...enna-wire.html
There are several holes in the cab that have rubber plugs; Firewall, Under the cab and back wall (a foot or so below the bed top line, 8 or 10 inches from the side).

I'll snap a pic when I charge my camera. I remember there is like a ledge that it's on and it's near the far corner of the cab. I have an air line running through it for my air horn valve

Here you go, This is in a 95 F250 standard cab. It should be the same location on all trucks. All I did was flip the seat forward, and there it was! haha
Here's a picture of my wire coming out from the Cargo light on my truck. It's a old picture and the other holes aren't there any more. Those are from a light that was once located there
Yeah i was hoping to do the brake light way because it would look cleaner since its roof mounted but since i dont really plan on keeping the roof mount i may as well go the plug route.
