I am a mechanical person, so I feel like an idiot asking this, but what the heck is going on with the dipstick on my 2000 Ex? I just put a FTVB in, I swear I got 2 gallons of fluid out of the drain plug, when I should have gotten 5 quarts. I have a feeling the previous owner overfilled it badly. I can't for the life of me figure out my dipstick. I get fluid on TOP of the dipstick when checking it, but none on the BOTTOM. SO I don't know if it is picking up residual oil from the tube on top when I pull it out, or if something is scraping the fluid off the bottom of the flat of the dipstick when I pull it out? It has taken 7 quarts so far and shifts fine, but I don't want to keep driving it if it is low. Anybody else have this going on?
Thanks for the input, but you didn't address my question. I didn't drain the whole thing because the whole thing is coming out next week.
The tranny is low on oil when you checked it. The oil on top of the stick is merely scraped off the sides of the tube. Keep filling until oil shows on the bottom but when you check it; dry the stick, put the stick in and pause about 6 inches above bottoming out (to align the flimsy blade), then quickly plunge the stick to the bottom and quickly back out.
THANK YOU!!!
That is what I needed to know, I figured it must be low but didn't want to overfill, and wasn't comfortable driving it until I knew for sure. Figured there must be a trick to it, lol.
Thanks again!
Chris
