129 fm f100 381 g a8
5000 172 @ 4000 62
okay i have it all figured but the body code 381 and the rear end a8
the closest thing i've found was a decode for a 67 saying it's a dana 44 limited slip.....pretty sure that's not accurate. thanks for all in advance
If ND is not available tonight, I believe I use his same decode source.
F10 = 2 wheel drive F100 pickup. D = 352 V8 2 bbl engine. D = Dallas birthplace. 129 = wheelbase in inches. FM = two tone exterior paint of
Arcadian Blue and Wimbledon White. F100 is the model code for a 5000 pound GVW truck. 381 = standard cab with interior of medium green crush vinyl and medium green wicker pattern vinyl. G = automatic transmission. A8 = Dana-Spicer 44 limited slip differential with 3.54 gears. 5000 = GVW. 172@ 4000 rpm is your 352's certified net horsepower. Your truck was ordered from the Houston (62) sales office and it was not a domestic special order.
ND, I'm sure I read an old thread in which you stated your source. I am using the same. It has taken me some time to figure out where and how to find certain information on the CD-ROM, but what great value for money. So much information and having an IPB ( illustrated parts breakdown) is invaluable in figuring out what goes where and what's supposed to be there.
I also have a question about the Vin number on my 65 Custom Cab
on the title for my truck it shows the number being. F10YK XXXXXX
I couldn't find the vin on the frame (right side behind axle)
nor on the crossmember as stated elsewhere in the forum.
I haven't be able to find anything that the "Y" would stand for.
Please help
The Y in your VIN you posted is the 1966 model year code for the 352 engine. The VIN is stamped into the top surface of the passenger side frame rail approx 12 inches in front of the engine crossmember...approx. parallel with the alternator when standing at the side of the truck.
Theres a 2nd location of the VIN...under the cab floor on the RH side frame rail as well.
The code for the 352 in 1965 model year trucks is D. Check the frame VIN...it IS there...has astrerisks on either end of the stamped area and the characters are approx 1/4" tall. A wirebrush will clear up the issue...if you decide to look under the cab as well, a mirror may be enough to help you see them...this is assuming you dont see the VIN 12" or so from the front engine crossmember.
Stormcloud - as CS65 mentioned, you might want to post at least the first three digits after the F10YK so we can tell you when your truck was made. It looks like there may be some confusion over which model year your truck is. My '66 CC was built in September '65 in Kansas City - which is what the "K" means in your vehicle warranty number. Is your engine the 352 V8 2bbl? The code for that engine, the fourth place in your warranty number, is "D" for 1965 models and "Y" for 1966 and 67 models. The warranty number on the top of my passenger side frame rail starts exactly 19 inches back from the end of the rail - where the bumper bolts to it. Since your truck was also born in Kansas City it is probably similar.
Thanx CS65 and S.S.
My title states 1965 Ford Pickup with the vin# as listed below F10YK858165
I think it was this site that I used to decode this in the past it did list it as
a 1/2 ton from K.C. with a 352 but also listed that it was incomplete data or some other inaccurate info.
The 352/2bl had been replaced with a 85 300/6cyl by a P.O.
I half heartedly tried to find the vin on the top of the frame on the passenger side about 4 to 6 inches from the shock tower but didn't try to move the innerfender well to see it from on top, nor did I try to find it by sticking my head into the fender well behind the tire yet.
I did clean the top of the frame with some Gunk degreaser and used a wire brush but like I said I only half heartedly looked from on top.
Thanx again for the fast response
this site is the greatest.

Stormcloud, according to your warranty number, starting with 858, your truck was built in May, 1966 and is therefore a 1966 model year vehicle, not a '65. Forgot to ask, do you have the driver door data plate or is that missing? I'm assuming it's missing or you would have that to refer to and if that matched your title, then you wouldn't have to be looking so hard for the VIN or the passenger frame rail. Hope this helps.
Your guess was right about the vin plate on the door not being there, I've read in various posts about them being lost or not even for the correct truck because of the doors being replaced.
I am going to try and find the vin number on the passenger frame tomorrow, now I'm courious if the door was replaced or how the title shows a 65 but the vin on the title when decoded states 66.
Knowing the way some things work here in Missouri my guess is that maybe the door was replaced and when the P.O. took it in to be inspected "bi-anually" they used the door vin plate, or maybe the title was from out of state and old enough the date couldn't be made out and someone just took a guess, or, or, or,
Thanx again for the help, and I'll post up when I find the vin on the frame.
