352

D VIN engine code used 1965 / Y VIN engine code used 1966/67

DSO 712733: Your truck was special ordered out of the Los Angeles Ford District Sales Zone Office.

What was special? Prolly the paint color...there's no paint code on the plate.

Everything else on that plate is normal for an F100.

F10 = F100 2WD / Y = 352 2V / R = San Jose Assembly Plant / 848123 = 1966

129" Wheelbase

Paint code missing

F100 = F100 2WD / 5,000 lb. GVWR

C = Ford Type 3.03 3 speed all syncro trans

08 = Ford 9 inch / 3.50-1

481: 4 = Medium Beige Crush Vinyl & Medium Beige Wicker Pattern Vinyl / 81 = 81A Standard Cab

172 HP @ 4000 RPM

5,000 lbs. Gross Vehicle Weight Rating

Thumbs up

WOW! Thanks number dummy! I thought it had to be a D to be a 352. That's why I was like what is Y? All of the places I looked I couldn't find a Y for a 1966.

I believe the truck was orginally red. It is now primered black. It did have beige vinyl but i just got it upholstered.

All the decoders on the internet are based on the info from the 1964/72 Ford Truck Parts Catalog.

Since the last printing of the catalog in January 1975 is available on a CD (from hipoparts.com), ppl look at the engine code charts and see D for 1965, and Y for 1967.

Ford error: There's NO 352 engine code listed for 1966 in the January 1975 last edition.

Earlier editions of the catalog show that Y used 1966 & 1967.

btw: Y was used 1968/76 also...for a 360.

Look on the floor under the seat to see what color it was originally.

The only red used then was Rangoon Red...code J.

Is the red similar to Coca-Cola Red?

If so, the truck may have belonged to the LA Coca-Cola Bottling Plant (on Los Angeles Street north of Pico) at one time.

That makes sense now. LMC and my detroit Iron cd didn't have the Y for 1966.

The red vinyl seat isn't original, and what color is that padded dash? Looks to be white.

The padded dashes came standard on Custom Cabs, but could be ordered with Regular Cabs.

The gauges (I can't tell if they are the originals or what they are) on either side of the speedometer were optional on Regular Cabs.
The brake & clutch pedal pads (B7A-2457-A) are still available from Ford @ $7.99 each.

The horn button or horn ring was the same 1964/70, and also fits 1963 Falcons.

Can't quite make them out.

The left side was the alternator gauge, the right was the oil pressure gauge.

The door and window handles were the same 1957/66.

Are you coming to the SoCal Chapter GTG in March?

Sunday, March 9th at Don Jose's at the corner of Magnolia & La Palma in Buena Park.
