I took some rain thru carb and didn't know it. So rust in #4 cylinder. I pulled the head for 1-4 and trying to get the rust out enough to hand turn engine. Need to get to the T converter bolts to pull engine...any suggestions? Been soaking rust in naval jelly.
thanks
I once bought an old 6 cyl from a junkyard that the rings were rusted to the cylinder wall...I put some bolts in the balancer and turned the crank with a long bar to get it loose.
Hi Steve,
I tried the breaker bar on the damper assy. bent the bolts. Guess tomorrow I'll crawl under and disconnect the rod journals and try tapping the pistons out the top so I can turn the crank to get to the flywheel bolts. I'm going to install a new motorcraft 400 so the core is really all I need to save. What a waste the engine only had 20k on it. Thanks for the suggestion.
Larry
Well guess it's time to break a few pistons. Too much rust to get pistons to even move with bearing caps removed. Any suggestions to break the pistons?
Its been a while since I've fooled with anything like this, but can't you take the bolts off of the bell housing, slide the motor forward off of the input shaft of the trans and bring the converter out with the motor? Or just drop the trans?

Well destroyed #4 piston and can now turn the crank to get to the converter bolts. going to Maine for lobster this next week. Pull the engine when I get back. Still looking around for a good rebuilt 400. Other than local Ford Dealer 1800 plus core 200. And found Rebuilt-Engine-Blocks.com 1131 plus 150 for core. Anyone interested in a core?
Ford's authorized engine rebuilder is GPD = Genuine Parts Distributors aka Tomadur Engine located in the City of Industry. Since you don't seem to be having any luck with your dealer, contact the rebuilder direct.
