rust on cylinder wall
I have a motor that has been siting, pulled the heads to find some light rust on the cylinder walls where some water trickled down the intake. Some of it rubs off and some is a little more stubbern. Is there something I can do to get it out without having to do a rebuild. Some kind of chemical or rubbing compuond? I would like to start it up before I decide to rebuild it or not. Ideas, suggestions?

Try using 3M scotchbrite pads to remove rust. Use the finest you can get. Healthy application of oil is reccomended. I like to spray the pad down with WD-40 till it drips. Be GENTLE and you shouldn't get any significant metal removal. As long as the rust isn't into the metal it should be fine.
