drivetrain CLUNK...
My 2012 with the single drive shaft had this clunk/ bump, when taking off from a stop. It just occured within the last 5-6k miles. My 2005 that was traded on my wife's Fusion had this same issue, it had the 2 piece drive shaft. I always thought it was a characteristic of the truck until the new one started doing it, and I know it didn't do it before. I will mention it to the dealer at its next oil change, it has 24,000 on it now...
I'm happy to get this in front of your regional customer service manager (CSM); they'll smooth the way for you when you head into the dealership. If you'd like me to assist, send me your VIN, dealer, mileage, daytime phone number, and full name; I'll make sure your CSM is alerted.
Thanks!
Crystal
Just got back from the dealership. They greased the slip yoke (my mistake in my earlier post, I do have the 2 piece drive shaft). When it starts clunking again they will do it again all the way to 100,000 miles. Then I probably won't worry about it.
it sucks ford did think of redesigning the drive shafts but that's not going to make them money so why do it.
Who was it that defined insanity as doing the same thing over expecting different results? Ford needs to fix all this clunking mess. Soon.
2012 Ford Expedition tail shaft clunk
My '10 XLT 4x4 has the clunk too. I have a one piece driveshaft, but everyone else seems to have the two piece? The dealer still did the TSB for greasing the slip yoke and it drove butter smooth for about 600 miles and now the clunk is coming back.
What exactly is the problem? Are the male/female connections too loose causing the play? Can buying a better slip yoke that fits better stop the clunk? I read somewhere on a Ford forum that a guy took a thick rubber hose and basically jammed it between the threads of the male and female components and it stopped his clunk. I plan on keeping this truck to over 200,000 miles and I'm afraid that wont happen unless there's a permenant solution for the clunk. Our 01 Expedition has over 140k on the clock and runs perfect

That's a well known issue that Ford has had for many years. My '97, with a 1-piece drive shaft had it too. Ford had a special grease for lubing the slip yoke (or recommended one). But it was a temporary fix as the grease would squeeze out of the joint with every change in load. I was always concerned that not lubing it would cause excessive wear but in 300,000 miles it never gave me a problem. Just an irritation.
