I have a 2005 F-150 King Ranch. I was really excited when I bought it (first truck) and love everything about it except the annoying and loud clunk when I accelerate from a stop. The noise is getting unbearable. I have been to the dealer, where they first changed out some sort of clutch in the rear. Then the noise came back after a couple of days. I took it back and they finally said it was the slip yoke and greased it. (They warned me that it would only last a couple days). Sure enough, the clunk came back again....I can't keep taking the truck in and having them put the magical Teflon grease on, only to have the clunk come back a couple days later. My main concern is that it is causing some sort of damage to the truck.
Is anyone out there working on some sort of fix on this? Will Ford ever fess up and fix the issue with a recall? It can't be normal since it doesn't happen to all Ford F-150s...
I have a similar problem, it make a slight 'honking' noise and you can feel slight movemnt or a quiet clunk. my dealer said let it get a little worse and they will fix it??????? So we will see what happens............

I went through the same thing. 4 times to the dealer and teflon grease each time. I finally told them that my warranty would expire soon and I still have the problem. Obviously the grease isn't the answer. They agreed and replaced the driveshaft which included the splineshaft. Problem solved. Unfortunately you have to give them several attempts to fix it first, at your inconvenience. Good luck.
I believe that the TSB states that the nickle plate chips off the slip yoke and causes it to bind up. Greasing it is just a temporary fix. The drive-shaft will have to be replaced for the permanent fix. Keep on them and ford will usually replace it after 3rd or 4th visit for the same problem.
Same problem 05' supercab fx4. Have been greased three times..I could not convince them to do anything else until I printed a previous forum (slip yoke sticking) (?) and took it to the dealer with me, which suggested a new drive shaft or a greasing and wedge to adjust the shaft angal. The service manage said he had to do a little work, talking (FORD) into it but I am in the shop now getting my new shaft..let you know how it turns out...and thanks to the forum for the info and help.
I have a similar problem with my 2004. I first took it in because the rear end was making noise on turns sometimes. They replaced the Ring and Pinion and the LS clutch packs. Now I have this wonderful clunk on takeoff or even worse when the the transmission downshifts while taking a corner. It sounds like the driveshaft is going to fall out.
Good to hear it may be the driveshaft. I guess that I need to take it back in again for this wonderful clunk.
My 04 had the same problem. I took it in once and it didn't get fixed. There are a lot of posts here about this problem. If you search for "clunk" or "shudder" you find lots of posts. I 'think' what usually fixes it is replacing the drive shaft. My 06 does it ever so slightly on occasions. Good luck to you.
The same problem here!!! I drive a '05 F-150 FX4 4X4. I feel a glunk when the tranny shifts from 1 to 2nd. Took my truck in to the dealer and they said it was my AC unit cycling on and off. Tested my Ac system and recharge it and they exspect me to believe that was going to fix a jerk and clunk I feel in the rear end. Talk to another dealer and he wants me to bring it in and change the clutchs in the rear end. Hopefully, I will get this problem fixed before the warranty expires.
I like everything else about my truck!
Sounds like I need to print a copy of this post and see if I can get another driveshaft.
I also have the same problem. I have a 2004 F150 XLT 4x4 with 90k miles on it and yet it is not even 2 years old. I have had it to the Ford Dealer several times about the problem with no resolution. At first they said that it was the Clutch Pack on the Rear Axle but then they found out that my truck does not have a Possi-Rear End. They replaced the rear axle seals and the the E-Brake shoes due to oil leakage. They stated that the "Shudder" was from the E-brakes rubbing on the rotor. Needless to say it still does it. The sound is more like a "Grrrr" when it shifts from 1st to 2nd gear and doesn't stop unitl you take your foot of the accelerator. The only problem is that it does not do it consistantly. They asked what kind of driving conditions or road does it do it on, that is the other thing... It can be wet, dry, slush, paved, dirt, even, uneven, straight or when I turn to the left or right. It still does it with a loud clunk when shifting. The Transmission also shifts very hard when decelerating and when going into overdrive. They have yet to figure it out and yet my extended milage will not cover the Greasing of the slip-yoke that they have told me that it is. They want to charge me to grease it ($90). I have also printed a copy of this post in the attempt to get a new driveshaft as well. Keep Us Posted as to what the finds are.

Save your $90. It is only a temporary fix which will last a month or so. The real fix, and they know it, is to replace the spline shaft and the only way I know to do that is to replace the whole drive shaft assembly. That is a permanent fix. How you get it done is up to you but if you began reporting it within your warranty period they should make it right.
My truck is still under the 100K mile extended warranty and they stated that the warranty would not cover the re-greasing of the yoke but I have done that myself. I am venturing into the dealership today to address the issue again with a printout of this forum being that I only have about 10K miles left to get the problem resolved before the extended runs out. I have had numerous problems with this tuck since I bought it, but yet with driving almost 100K miles in less than 2 years time, I can see problems occuring before most. Right after I bought it (3 weeks) I had no power under acceleration and it seemed as though the engine died. After being in the shop for 5 weeks they figured out that it was the spark-plugs failing and the plug-over coils shorting out. Then about 6 months after purchasing, they ended up replacing the inside fuse module, wire harness and battery after I noticed that I had no back-up lights and stop lights were dim. Two months after that the truck was back in after I bought a new set of tires for a rattle in te front end, found out that the tie-rods were loose and that the A-arm (both upper and lower) needed to be replaced. A month after that I needed new shocks due to Mileage. I since have had to have both front calipers replaced due to the fonolic (sp?) pistons cracking. I did a 4-wheel brake job on it last January and had to special order Rotors and pads from Raybestos due to nobody had rotors or pads listed for the application.
Thanks again for your input and your assistance on this "clunking" and "suddering vibration" (like going over rumble strips) problem.
yeah i had same problem, tried to find few best grease then I gave up.
I found TSB for it (replace driveshaft) and its WORK! no more clunk, since almost 4 months!!! Thank god!
I had the same problem on my F150, except it is a 1993 model. Back to the dealer every few months to grease the yoke. They tried to keep greasing it until the warranty ran out. I got into a fight with them at the end and they finally put on a new yoke and it was fine. Its nice to see that they haven't been able to solve the problem after 13 years.
