Lake in Woods in Narvon, PA. It is about a 30 minute drive to Lancaster, however, this place has to be the cleanest park we have ever stayed in. Great for kids. They have these theme cabin rentals like a train, treehouse ect. Not that you need it. Sites are level but not overly huge. It is a bit of a drive to your destination but it is clean, quiet, and family run.
That one looks good. It would have been worth the drive. Will keep it in mind.

Sorry for all of the back to back posts, but I started reading this thread and I get that itch right around now to go camping! Especially after seeing all of those pics from out West and The Pacific Northwest, beautiful!

New member here, but not new to camping. I would have to say the best place we have stayed is Ft. Wilderness in Disney.

However, IMO, the next best would have to be Normandy Farms in Foxboro, MA. http://www.normandyfarms.com/

It is family run. And these types of parks seem to be fading. It is very clean, safe and well run. Sites are large and they have a litany of amenities. They have I believe at least 3 pools, one indoor with a spa and Jacuzzi. Great place for the kids. A lot of activities, even when it rains. They even have a teen night club on certain nights. Great place for the Autumn as well. Especially if you are a Patriots Fan. The stadium and Patriot Place is right down the road. As is Pro Bass Shops.

Hi to all the camper people. My wife and I are from Connecticut and have camped from Myrtle Beach, SC. to the top of Maine, and west to Lancaster PA. There are so many nice places and good people that we have met over the years.

If your in Connecticut and need a good place to stay. Try "Charlie Brown Campground in Eastford, CT. We have gone seasonal there. When we were looking for a place in CT to summer the camper, it was our favorite over the years in CT. Also voted "best campground in Connecticut" by Yankee Magazine.

Last, I have the fever to get back out in the camper. The RV shows are coming up to tide me over.

Thank you for the suggestion. The Bride and I have been looking for a new place to go in CT. And it is perfect because I can take the same ferry, Orient Point, NY to New London, CT, and be there in under an hour. Judging from the name I am safe assuming it is well suited for kids?

We have been going to Odetha in Bozrah, CT, for the past 6 years because of the close proximity to Mystic, the ferry, casinos. Their lake is a great swimming lake. My kids love it there.

It is also very clean, safe, and the staff is friendly. However, a few cons are they have a limited amount of sewer sites. The majority are Gray Water only. They do have a sewer truck that can pump out your Black Tank. And all of the sites are located uphill from the lake/pool and rec areas.

Living in CT I am sure you are familiar with this park. I gave this review for the benefit of others. And do I have the fever as well to go camping. Thank you for the recommendation!

To All,
There is now another option to staying at Lake George RV Park, Lake George, NY. Moose Hillock is now taking reservations for this coming season. However, their website is not up and running yet. You can find them on Facebook. They are affiliated with the Moose Hillock in NH, same owners. We just booked last week for August 2014. On the Facebook page they have a brief description of the park and park map. Phone number is also provided. And their rates are cheaper than LGRVP.

A few more months and I will be opening mine.

Saddleback Campground in Northwood, NH. SaddlebackCampground.com

It's small only 20 sites. Can handle up to 50ft units. Free Trout Fishing, Free WiFi, and Free Hot Showers. The younger kids like to catch the frogs in the pond.

I do a discount to FTE Members.

Yes we have stayed there. You may find this a little more rustic. Small stream threw grounds. It does have activities for children. You can look at their web sight http://www.charliebrowncampground.com/

Any idea where that Moose Hillock is or will be located? We occasionally go camping near Lake George as we sometimes late or early season just want a night or two more out and we are only about 35 miles from there. We wont use LGRV Park again after a couple less then a great experiences with big rig MH inconsiderates - plus $84/night is insane!!!

Here is their Facebook page. It is on Rt. 149, so it must be in proximity to LGRVP. Rt. 149 in Fort Ann, NY. We called on a weekday, and there was someone there to take our reservation.

https://www.facebook.com/MooseHillockCampingResort

I know, LGRVP's prices are way overpriced. It is a nice park. But not $100 a night for July 4th week! We have been staying in Corinth, NY at Alpine Lake, because I will not pay their prices. However, Alpine Lake was a great park. Then about 7 years ago, the family sold it to Encore! Since then it is fallen into disrepair with the same vintage amenities. Gets worse every year. I hope this new park works out. I believe it was $75 a night. I forgot the weekly rates. But it was not anywhere near what LGRVP charges.

We stayed at Alpine Lake several years ago and it seemed quite nice at the time. Others have told me that it's now not too hot. Also have stayed at the KOA in Luzerne - and it's OK and many years ago at Half Mile Ranch also in Luzerne. Wont be staying there again. We do a seasonal on Lake Champlain (Westport/Barber Homestead CG). It's small, clean and well kept and about 100 yards from Lake Champlain. They are adding another row of ~8/10 campsites this year if the ADK finally approves their permits. But with that said, we generally pull out a couple times a year for an extended trip with this year, hopefully, a cross country many mile one since we still like to travel beyond that Adirondack area. Last year it was to visit New Brunswick, Maine and New Hampshire.

We have very rarely ever stayed in any real campgrounds. Mostly just boondocking for us. However, when we went to Yellowstone Pk and back, we stayed KOA campgrounds except for one. The best 2 were the Bear Lake, UT and West Yellowstone, MT campgrounds.

Bear Lake / Garden City KOA | Camping in Utah | KOA Campgrounds

West Yellowstone KOA RV Park, Campground, Cabins in West Yellowstone, Montana

These were both fantastic. It pays to get reservations early, as they are both very busy parks. When we arrived at W. Yellowstone. They were turning everyone away that didn't have a reservation. Ours was good and waiting for us though. We were there for a week.

Both the Bear Lake and West Yellowstone grounds were clean, neat, and quiet. The staff on both were excellent and very helpful and friendly. I would go back to either one in a heartbeat.

THE BAD--

The one in Panquitch, UT was a disaster. Avoid at all costs. Small, dirty, run down, not well maintained at all. The restrooms should have been condemned. They tried to tell us they were full even though we had confirmed reservations. Then they tried to stuff us in a smaller space and tried to tell me I'd have to break down my rig, unhitch my car trailer, and store it in their storage lot. Yeah right. They "found" our spot after I started raising hell. We were only there 2 nights, thank God. I'll never go back to that one.

Panguitch KOA | Camping in Utah | KOA Campgrounds

THE PLEASANT SURPRISE--

On the way home we stopped in this one on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon.

Kaibab Camper Village | Grand Canyon North Rim camping for RVs, trailers, tents, cabin room at Jacob Lake, Arizona

Small Mom and Pop operation. Very nice, quiet, clean, friendly staff. Only small negative is it's quite a ways down dirt roads from the highway. Nice and no big deal for us, but some folks don't like to take their rigs down rough roads. Would stay here again. It's a bit of a drive into the NP, but it's a very pretty drive each way.

You know, when you made the statement about having your morning coffee first, I knew right away what you were referring to! Good thing for spell check! That is funny.

We do it all boondock(wife will not without help from Honda), and private parks. I would say we mostly do private parks. However, some of the NYS Parks are in such beautiful locations, you cannot help but stay!

Nice reviews of the KOA's out west! Comes in handy when you do not know anything about the region you are in. I know they wee meant for everyone. But I do appreciate the information. I will be sure to stay away from the one in Utah! It is always helpful getting campground recommendations right from the horses' mouth so to speak.

My buddy did cross country a few years ago with his family and had a blast! I really picked his brain, and got some really great information. He also made good use of the KOA's. They are everywhere, usually clean and safe, and very convenient to the interstate.

I usually RVParkreviews.com. They have yet to fail me. However, you need to read all of the posts. Especially the bad ones. Most often people will give a park a bad review because they did not have Wi-Fi at their site, or the staff gave me attitude when I checked in because I pulled in with my TT that had a blue tarp for a roof! That one is my favorite. And try to remember the posters. It is usually the same poster giving everywhere they have stayed a bad review. I suppose they fail to see a pattern forming!

Be well!

We were actually looking for a park in the Lake Champlain area. I am going to give this one a look, thank you. Is there still a ferry service to Burlington, VT on the lake?

I know of the KOA at Lake Luzerne and the Ranch. I know what you mean. Drove in and drove out. I like Lake Luzerne because it is a lot cheaper to rent a boat/jet ski or any other water related activity. And it is not as busy as LG and very beautiful.

I think 8 years, I believe it is, is enough time for Encore to get their act together at Alpine Lake. It is a shame though because it is a large and beautiful place. And the pool area (2 pools), which was added by the previous owners before they sold it, is nice as well. All they have been doing is adding sites, many sites. And you would think they would add more bathrooms and amenities to the park as it grows. Not at this park. The number of sites to bathrooms is way out of proportion.

Money, Money, Money is what this and all corporations are after. And they have not even updated the outdated playground, or basketball, equipment since they took over. Nor added any new. If you are in the very back, the far reaches of the park, you need to drive, ride, walk up to the front of the park to access the amenities. All this, and the price just steadily increases every year. For us going there for as long as we have, it is not worth the money anymore. Last time we were there, we heard that Encore had, or was about to file for Chapter 11. I haven't followed up on that though. No need to anyway.

There are ferries at Ticonderoga, Essex (probably the best for Burlington and takes you through Charlotte, VT and then North on Rt 7) and Plattsburgh. You can also take the new bridge at Crown Point or one that takes you through Plattsburgh to N. Hero, Vermont then on to Burlington.

The CG website we stay at is: Camping in Westport, New York Adirondack Camping at Its Finest. They haven't updated it for 2014, but I don't expect much change. There is another CG, Bulwagga Bay in Port Henry - seems to be usually quite full, but not very nice, being a municipal trailer park in an almost destitute village.
