One of my favorites is Knoebels in Elysburg, PA. It is one of the few campgrounds with an amusement park attached to it. The park has great food, awesome rides and if the kids get tired, you just walk back to the campground and come back later. One of the things I don't like is they only have electric on the sites but they do have a dump station and water is accessible at several places throughout the campground. We have been going there every Memorial Day weekend for the last 24 years.
Hey if anyone is traveling I-30 and need to take a break around Texarkana, TX, head south on Hiway 59 about 10 miles. There is a lake called Wright Patman (30000 acres) and they have several nice campgrounds. They are some of the best COE campgrounds that I have vistited. Clear Springs is really nice, lots of trees, close to the lake, clean restrooms and showers, clean power, but not all have sewers and for 18 bucks. Rocky Point is another just 8 miles away and its the same just a little more secluded. Great place to overnight or spend a few day. Fishing is fantastic and some of the most friendly people I have happened upon. You can make reservations online thru the Army Corp of Engineers. My Dad volunteers to run one of the campgrounds and he likes it so well he has stayed for over 2 years. Course he gets free campsite, electricty, water and sewer.......
Augusta Montana..... Willow Creek Reservoir.
Nice quiet lake. OK Fishing. Wide open area just east of the Rockies.
No city/town lights around........Very clear night sky.
South/east end of lake has 8 State campsites.
Some people, including us, follow a "trail" around the lake and setup camp anywhere. We tend to go to the North side where there is never any company. Setup camp, let the doggies run and drown worms.
I'll look for some pictures for a later post.
Stayed in a very unique 5* rated campground last weekend in Pennsylvania called "Lake In Wood". ain't cheap, but I can say you'll really have a good time if you have children. Many things to do other than being mesmerized by the fire.

Our favorites are probably Joshua Trees NP, for its cold nights and vastly different flora as compared to my childhood in the PacNW.
In Arkansas, we're partial to the Buffalo River NP and those lazy float trips. But offroading on the Winona Ridge trail outside of Perryville and camping on the top of Crystal Mountain is just about the best bang for your gasBuck.
Hi there fellow campers. My wife and I are headed to the Texas Gulf Coast in September, and would like to stop overnight in the Slidell, LA area (somewhere near the I-59, I-10, I-12 split) Any recommendations??
