Running out of things to try. 2000 F-350 345,000 miles, won't start. Fuel Pump went out one week ago, replaced w/airtex replacement. Ran fine for 3 days. Decided to drop tank to clean screen and do hutch mod. Got it all done, put back together had to use just an inline fuel filter which made it about a mile before it got crushed and cut off all fuel to the engine. Got towed to thge shop where i found a dual element canister style filter that would replace the inline hooked it up no leaks, plenty of fuel to fuel bowl but truck would not start. That was 3 days ago and it still wont start. Checked batteries 10.5-11V of each battery under load. Checked all fuses, tested good. Changed IPR, unplugged ICP still no start, checked oil pressure out of each HPOP port w/mechanical gauge, 2100 psi on one, 3200 on the other. I have 80 psi coming from fuel pump to fuel bowl. Haven't checked pressure to the fuel rails yet. I've been surfing the forums for answers and haven't found the right one yet. One strange thing i noticed was the solenoid thats mounted higher and farther to the front of the engine only gets power to one side key on, off and cranking. Tried jumping across and it made no difference. What is this solenoid for? Sorry for the long post but i don't have much access to the internet. Any help would be much appreciated.
I think the solenoid you are referring to is either the Air Intake Heater or the Glow Plug Relay, depending on which you are referring to. All those things are needed for starting.
Does your tach move while cranking? Possible CPS or wiring issue?
Does the Wait To Start Light come on when the key is turned to ON? PCM getting power.
tach does move in dash, wait to start light comes on as usual, just replaced cps with more durable IH version.
The relay im talking about looks like the one in your pic. If that is the glow plug relay is it absolutely necessary that it be working. I'm in South Texas and i know no glow plugs isn't helpful but shouldn't it still start although it might take longer. Is it possible that glow plugs become more more necessary as an engine and injection system wears out?
The relay you are talking about is probably the air intake heater. Don't worry about that one right now. It does not function until a variety of conditions are met, none of which happen until after the engine is started.
i didn't figure the solenoid was really critical but was hopen i was wrong, as that would have been an easy fix.
There is a little greyish smoke while cranking, you have to watch the mirror to see it, in about 15-20 seconds of cranking the amount of smoke is hardly noticeable unless your standing at the tailpipe. Truck sounds like it is going to start normally in the first 8 seconds then it just gives up.

Haven't tried it plugged in. Truck is currently to torn down to try it but if it doesn't start after reassembly i will try it.
On a seperate note is anybody running a fuel bowl delete like the CPR system? Do they use a filter before or after the fuel pump? Is it a worthwile mod?
Well it finanlly started. The final test that seems to have brought it back to life is a shop built fuel bowl delete. Pipe fittings from bowl supply line to rail supply lines w/pressure gauge and after cranking about 15 seconds it fired right up. Noticed a slight fuel leak after pressure gauge going to resolve that and try again. Also gonna fab up a return lines and find a regulator.
well im not sure what was goen on with my truck. I put the fuel bowl back on and truck was running fine this weekend, but the batt. light is comen on and when i check voltage at batt. terminals its only maken 13.6 should be around 14.5 right? Batteries fall down real fast, think im gonna test for a bad cell. It runs fine once i get it started. The air intake solenoid is still not working. Could a combination of glow plugs being out and AIH not working cause the truck not to start when cold even with sufficient voltage for starting.
