check engine light missing big time.....

Looks like I need the 50 cent mod. Towed 100 miles yesterday ran great. This morning with daughter packed for college leaves driveway with little miss then it feels like 4 dropped out.. limped home in first.

Looked on forum, need 50 cent fix.

What else should I fix in that area while adding shaved quarters? Oil leaking around turbo tubes so I think I will change those.

The intercooler boots can be cleaned and re-installed, or get new ones from Clay. They are much heavier and will not blow off or leak as easy.

While your under the VC's, glow plug R&R might be something you want to do to as well as verifying torque on all the components under them.

Purchased new boots and the plenum inserts plus clamps from Riffraff. I'm hoping the clamps are better than the hose clamps I removed. I don't like hose clamps on tubing, I like spring clamps. Also purchased blow by kit.

Just priced the valve cover gaskets, wow, $80 each side. I'm thinking that they need to be replaced. Or, are they reusable without issues? If they need to be replaced is there a preferred brand or parts distributer?

Thanks,

Redbug

If you aren't having issues you can reuse your valve cover gaskets.

Wanted to get my Truck into my barn before the hurricane. (I'm in SE PA).

Had the turbo pipes off and decided to put the quarters in. I found the Driver side valve cover easier to remove. The driver side injector connector was out. Boy, the shaved quarter fit in tight and was a perfect fit.

Cleaned off tubes and put them back in. The boots from Riffraff should get here early next week. I'm not in a rush for them. I know how to remove and install the tubes now, I think it will take me about two hours or less.

At least I could move the truck.

Follow up.

I put in the 50 cent fix as described earlier. Received my new red boots from Riff Raff with the plenum inserts? and clamps. The boots, inserts and clamps fit like a glove. Very happy with the quality of the Riff Raff products and service. Had to peel back some of the foil on the drivers side tube for the front. I also purchased and installed the blow by kit which ran the tube under the cab.

Runs fine now. I did notice that smoke is coming up from under the truck now when I idle while stopped. Oil has been changed about 1500 miles ago and its still clean. Should I expect that much blow by? Maybe I have to make that mod that runs the tube to the back of the truck and catches the blow by in a canister?

Yep, you need to run that hose back near the rear wheel somewhere and add a simple catch canister..Try and keep the hose at a gentle downward angle without any dips, from engine to the rear of the truck.. With the outlet near the cab, you will actually smell the oil fumes that drift into the vent in front of your windshield.. The smoke is normal.
