I have a 92 F350 with ATS 088. Well my vent hose has a leak in it but it's leaking out of the bottom where it meets the valve cover. How do I replace the vent hose? I've read some forums where guys say just pull hard and it will come out but what about utting thr new one back on? I ordered one from ATS, and was wondering what's the easiest aproach. Also after readin a few forums I decided to remove and clean my CDR, how do you determine if it needs to be replaced?, I soaked it in solvent and cleaned it but not sure if or when it was replaced last by previous owner, ive had it for a year and never have. This all started when I noticed my truck had an oil leak so I popped the hood and notice the vent hose was covered in oil. I'm not a good mech. so I took it to the local guy and he said it could be my rear main, but I think he wants my money more than to help. After I read a few post. I noticed some simptoms of the vent hose and CDR, like at high rpms and high speeds, I can smell burnt oil in the cab, also when I stop and shut off engine, oil only drains for a few minutes after shut off, Any info on what you guys think it might be would be appreciated, Thanks Gunnar
on checking the cdr valve to see if it's functioning properly, after it's clean you can put your finger over the bottom hole and blow in the other one and you should feel the diaphragm moving back and forth. if you feel air against your finger, the diaphragm is probably ruptured and will need replacing. at least that's what I understand. hope this helps. as with the hose replacement, not having a turbo, i'm at a loss for help.
i had the same thing happen and when i went to take it off to clean it, the hose broke.
so i just put a short thin rubber tube from the valve cover to the cdr for temp, ive been meaning to go to the hardware store toget some inch heater hose or something to stick on there good. i wouldnt think it would be nessesary to order the hose from ats, when you dont need to, no? or is this pretty specific?
as for procedure to check a cdr, yeah its something like speed said, your just checking to see if the diaphram inside is working and not blown out.
I cleaned the CDR and blow it out and replaced it temp. until I recieve the new vent hose from ATS(which is only $27, part #14, on a non waste gated turbo #088, FYI). So when I ge the new hose i'll check the CDR again to see if I can hear whatever it is that shuts in there, also i'll check out how diffacult it is to replace that vent hose and repost a thread on that, thanks guys for the feed back
Dieselrunner do you have this same turbo?, I assume if you have the vent tube you do. How does it work for you and are you getting good boost? I have a 5 speed manual and it seems a little sluggish in the 1st and 2nd gears
