1999 F-350 Diesel engine shutting off

Hoping this might make sense to someone, and we can get this fixed.

Three times now when pulling a load (9000#) and the rpm gets under 1000, and you just take your foot of the gas peddle, the engine will just shut off. You can put it in neutral, or stop and park and restart OK. After the first two times we took it to the dealer, and they did the following. It happened for a third time though, so obviously the problem still exists. Here is what is on the dealer invoice.

EBP sensor out of range. possible source at fault. RECC EBP connector and readvise.

1. Replace EBP and connector. Replace and retst EBP and Retests in range . OK

Any ideas?

Usually when the dealer gives a precise problem, thats it. Replace the EBP sensor. And I think there is an EBP Valve.. but not sure.

It actually sounds like a CPS, any chance it's raining out when this is happening? Notice your tach bouncing to 0 rpm's while the engine is running? The fact it starts right back up is very common for the CPS in the beginnings of failure, then it will start to miss on the highway.

Why would it shut the truck off? You can run these trucks with the eb sensor unplugged as well as the ebpv and not have issues with the truck shutting off. You could easily unplug them both and if the truck still dies while driving down the road I'd look somewhere else. Cps has my vote as well!

my EPB is capped off with a npt cap, and a plug into the manifold, so no epb tube here, along with the epbv gutted and unplugged....no probs here..knock on wood, (been that way for 6months)

You're actually going back there?
Buy a CPS for $27.00 or so.
One bolt install just above the crank pulley at the 10:00 position.

another thing could be the ipr valve. already changed on 2 different trucks this year. they not start sometimes then they started dying when you come to stop sign but would start right back up.

CPS - Crank Position Sensor? I guess they already looked at that and replaced it when we had it in there for the recall on the Cam something? So glad to have something else too look at. Thanks.

Okay, the latest thing we've been told to replace is the ICP sensor. Could this possibly help? Help!

Simple test for the icp sensor is unplug it and drive it like that. If it still dies the prob is elsewhere. Any new codes? If not I wonder if it could be fuel related?
