New Headlights on my 2001 eXcursion

Here is how I replaced the old, yellowed original headlight housings on my 2001 X.

I ordered them from Monster. They came with bulbs but I'll be upgrading to Sylvania Silverstars.

Here is what the old looked like:

The swap was pretty easy, undo the lower adjustment all the way. Leaving the lower clip
still attached to the body.

Remove the upper clips

Then remove the electrical connection on the rear and remove the complete housing.

You'll then have to remove the lower adluster by squeezing from the rear:

Take the new housing and connect the electrical to the socket, then line up the housing and push it in place. The lower clip will snap in place, the uppers require the clips be reinstalled.

The hardest part is getting the original lower attachment off. I used a little WD-40 and squeezed it with the pliers from the rear it popped right off.

Here's the completed swap

The difference in light output is incredible. After adjustment it's now much more comfortable driving at night, as well as much safer. We'll have to see how they hold up.

I hope this helps anyone planning this upgrade.

Much better! I tried all the cheap fixes for headlight oxidation (tooth paste worked pretty good), but new ones are the ultimate fix.

$110 shipped to my door. There are other options out there, some more expensive. The originals were much thicker/stronger, well see how these hold up.

I like some of the aftermarket grilles better but the light combo is killer! Are they aftermarket or a later model? What brand/model?

I got them on ebay they are for an 05 and i did have to cut the header panel a fair amount but it was super easy and no way to mess anything up. Just keep cutting till they fit they don't mount on the header panel anyway.

I got the grill and the headlights for $260 bucks. I had to cut the grill too, but it was easy with a long blade in my jig saw.

Beside the trimming of the header panel were these plug and play? Did you require a new socket or conversion pigtail?

Looks good!

piggy

I believe they come with the pigtail to make the swap. I've been eying the same ones. I will probably do the grill and headlights at the same time.
