Cut fuel lines need help !!!!!

Cut fuel lines need help !!!!!
when i pulled my old 5.0 out of my 88 f 150 i cut the fuel lines right befor the compretion fitting. So can i just pull off the little inch of line and heat up the long line and slip it onto the compretion fitting and clamp it. Need help !!!! Thanks
