i need to replace my fuel lins from the grey and blue lines by the drivers wheel up to the hpop..should i take the blue and grey line out of the system or does it need to stay?? how do i unhook these lines from the steel fuel lines?? thanks guy's
once you take the alternator off and the mounting bracket to the head/block, it's an easy deal. when i did my fuel system, i replaced them. too bad that i bent one off and cut it to get it out easier, or i would give it to you. there is a fuel line disconnect tool, its a collar that slides up into that connection, and a push opens the jaws inside and you can pull the line off. dont get a plastic one, get a nice metal one.
thank you strokin_it7.3 are these lines air tight?? or should i remove them and replace with a new steel line? witch is the better option.. amiller93 put up a website with the tool thank you amiller93...witch one is it i need??
no, that is to put them together, as far as it looks. however, a firm push and the line snaps into the connection easily. yes they are air tight, they seal extremely well under pressure, but not in a suction environment, that is why it is desired to remove them before the pump to prevent air entrainment. the tool you want is on the right side three rows above that part. the one that is $12.80. if i do remember correctly, the supply line is larger (3/8") than the return line (5/16") so you may need two different tools. hmm, you may be innterested in this tool KD TOOLS 3321 - FUEL LINE QUIK DISCONNECT TOOL 5/16 AND 3/8-- $10.24
if i were you, i would buy the lines direct from ford. pre-bent in the desired spots, and they have the QD connector on one side, and the flare fitting for the fuel filter housing on the other.
Kris is right, metal ones are better but I get by with a plastic set that I bought at AZ for about $8. I just don't use it that often, and all you are doing is expanding a circular spring inside the coupling in order to release the connection.
